I got my book today and I am so excited. When I read the story about this battle, I wondered if I had forgotten it over time or if they didn't teach it in my History class (which was so boring). This is a wonderful story about normal people who made a difference ... the war might have turned out differently if not for a group of men who decided to fight for something they thought was right. They went off to war and sent a letter asking for someone to lead them. Who does that? Then they rushed back home to protect their families from Indians and others who knew they had left their families unprotected while they went to fight in the war. The story is inspiring. I don't know how I missed it. I learned about it because I have started doing genealogy and found that I have ancestors that fought in this battle I had never heard of so then I had to learn about the battle. I am still learning and this book will help. I won't forget this story and I won't forget the men, women and children who lived it.

this story is well told in other books, but this one also brings to the table interesting details once overlooked.

Page 1: The Battle of King's Mountatin

The date for the battle is in error (October 7, 1870). The battle occurred on October 7, 1780 by all other accounts!

If there are other errors in fact, I haven't found them, but it makes me distrustful of the content of this book.

I bought it because it listed my ancestors in this battle, on one page, but I thought it would have been proofed more thoroughly.
