Editorial Reviews

Black magic, possession and bizarre deaths turn a normal family's life into a nonstop nightmare in the occult thriller, THE KISS. The terror begins in the Belgian Congo, as an unsuspecting young girl boards a train for what will become a strange, supernatural voyage. Twenty-five years later, the girl, Felice (Joanna Pacula), now a sensuous fashion model, suddenly appears in New York to visit her teenage niece, Amy (Meredith Salenger). Although Amy is excited to meet her Aunt Felice, the arrival of this mysterious relative strangely coincides with a gruesome series of violent deaths. Amy soon realizes that, like Felice, she is about to become heir to a horrifying family legacy- and only her will to survive can keep her safe from THE KISS.

'The KISS' is definitely in my top 20 when it comes to ranking 80's horror that has a great story, but guilty of having cheesy moments! Felice, a sexy-possessed-black magic-worshipping woman who carries around a pet cat from hell!!! She is the evil aunt that comes to New York to visit her niece for deadly reasons and whoever gets in her way, pays a deadly price!!! Find out what this horrifying family legacy is all about! If you like horror flicks such as 'The Guardian'(1990), than you'll love this one. Warning!...you will have a question or two after seeing this flick.

Reasons I love this flick!

1. Joanna Pacula does a fantastic job at portraying an evil woman!
2. That wicked-looking cat that looks like it came from hell!
3. The death scenes are great!
4. The movie has a nice pace; never a slow moment!
5. FX work is passable.
6. Joanna Pacula is the sexiest witch I've ever seen haha.
7. It's 80's cheese that happens to be creepy!
8. I Love films that deal with curses.
9. Seen this movie when I was a kid and the escalator scene freaked me out for years!
10. It simply reminds me of other horror flicks I love.

The Kiss is a sexy and scary 80's horror movie that was awesome back then and awesome now!!!!!! It has a wonderful cast and the story was basic which i like!!!!!! Its about this aunt that lives with her niece in New York only to give her this curse which you have to kiss the person to take the curse!!!! What more can i say about this movie is that it had style and even though its a little cheesy i would watch it again and again!!!!!

For a B-Horror Movie, I'll give this a "B". This movie features two lovely ladies: Joanna Pacula, who played Val Kilmer's prostitute main squeeze in Tombstone, and Meredith Salinger, who played the very cute deputy in Lake Placid. The movie was at times a little slow-paced and overdeveloped for a rather simple plot, but the production value was certainly competitive with horror movies of its time and damn does Joanna Pacula make a sexy voodoo witch! The death scenes are also pretty fun and creative. If you like 80's B-Horror, then you'll like this.

Why, why, why does all of the bad stuff in the world seem to come from the tropics? That ebola-ish virus from the Outbreak monkey, the zombie-ism-infected mutant rat thing in Dead-Alive, the nasty spider from Arachnaphobia, and now evil voodoo relics in this movie...all from South America, Papua New Guinea and Africa. Go figure, the birds of paradise must all be lethal to survive such wilds.

The movie opens in the Belgian Congo in 1963. Early on we see that a young girl's aunt has a weird rash and a creepy voodoo-ish objet d'art. This provocative antique seems to stare at the apparently possessed aunt as she awakens her tweenie niece, Felice, from a nap with a scream-muffling stranglehold and kissing her. Kissing her 12(?)-year-old niece. Nice. After this curious act the aunt's body looks drained (suspiciously similar to the life-drained victims of the hot, naked space-vampire from LifeForce, which was released in 1985 and features Patrick Stewart--just FYI). Contrastingly, the young niece looks quite vibrant after the molestation.

Cut to present day (1988) in the United States. Now all grown up and an aunt herself, Felice (Joanna Pacula) calls her sister out of the blue.

Dark magic, murder, and sex galore in this horror cult classic from the 80's! A young girl gets caught up in dark magic when visiting the Congo. Twenty years later she visits her niece but it is not what her niece, or anyone else for that matter, expects or would ever want in their home! Gruesome deaths occur never before seen in their area. Sometimes, as proven by science, sex can kill you(STD, VD, etc.). However, diseases are the least of this family's concerns in the mating category! This film is rated R for nudity, violence, horror, and VERY sexy/steamy scenes. Enjoy!

I hadn't seen this movie since I was 11 years old, and I was lucky enough to come across a copy on Amazon at age 30. I have to say that it was just as good and frightening as it was when I was a child. My only complaint with this movie is that it is not on DVD. They don't make horror movies like this anymore. Now everyone is more into violence and gore than a driving plot. If you are a TRUE horror fan, you would definitely want to add this one to your collection.

This late 80's gem is lost in the dustbins of the VHS counters, but prevails over much lesser competition.
If you liked WAXWORK you will love THE KISS. Meredith Salenger is terrific! And watch for a surprise appearance by Shawn Levy as the love interest. (Levy went on to direct the two NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM films).

"The Kiss", while rare and OOP, is quite a fun movie to watch. If you love '80s horror movies, you will love this. It's got a chilling score, likable characters, and an extremely fun, over-the-top ending. Definitely give this one a watch if you can!
