Maria Isabella is an award-winning writer, author, and culinary instructor who enjoys cooking...loves baking even more...and is happy to share her knowledge with others. Which is why she enjoys contributing as a focus group member and recipe tester for Bon Appetit magazine, America's Test Kitchen, Betty Crocker Kitchen, General Mills, and Pillsbury.

Maria possesses a degree in Communication from Cleveland State University. She is also a proud member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals, the James Beard Foundation, and Les Dames d'Escoffier.

Maria lives in Cleveland with her husband of 35 years, Joseph. She has five grown children, two sons-in-law, and four adorable grandchildren who love anything she makes in her kitchen -- especially her blueberry pancakes.

I originally bought the book as a gift for an ex-Clevelander, but after sneaking a peek, or two . . . or three, I bought another copy for myself. I loved the pages where the author details how the chefs got their start. An overwhelming number of them learned their love of food from their families.

Even though the recipes are what our hometown food heroes would whip up for friends and family in an hour, they are far from run-of-the-mill. There are recipes that would make my Italian grandma proud and recipes that I'm sure Grandma would never have even have dreamed of. Unusual combinations of ingredients, new ways to make old favorites,this book offers both. And you don't have to be a Clevelander to enjoy it!

Any true Foodie knows the talent and diversity that Cleveland chefs have to offer. We've seen them on TV, read about them in the most respected publications, and now we can bring them into our kitchens.

Not only do we get to try the recipes that have put these chefs on the map, the author has written wonderful bios to introduce the reader to the chef's background, culinary and entertaining tips; its as if she's performing a personal introduction before the chef walks into your kitchen.

I've tried 11 recipes so far (this includes sauces for the dishes), and made two full meals. The recipes are easy to follow for the average person who just likes to play in the kitchen. Some are so easy, even a beginner can make an award-winning dinner. Some recipes may seem a bit challenging for the novice, but not too overwhelming, just enough to inspire a seasoned home chef to try something new. Thankfully, the author also has video tutorials on her website/blog on some techniques. Having moved a bit further away from Cleveland, I miss going to some of my favorite restaurants as often as I'd like. How happy (and proud) I was when I made a sauce that tasted just as I remembered from one of my favorite places!

I love the author's theme, asking the chefs what would they serve if company was coming over in an hour. They contributed recipes for an entire meal, from the appetizer to dessert. This makes things simple for the host, as the combination of flavors and textures have already been tested in the best restaurants. Beer, wine and cocktail suggestions also accompany each menu, so you are sure to have memorable dinner party. However, the author also included a valuable 'mix and match' page, so you can customize your own menu.

Many vegetarian recipes, some vegan and some can easily be made just as tasty without the meat.

This is a great gift for anyone who loves Cleveland or loves fantastic recipes that are easy to follow

I love this book!!! I bought one for myself and another five for friends and family. Really loved giving it as a gift, but especially enjoyed sending to my brother in Dallas and my nephew in Honolulu. Both grew up here in Cleburg as we affectionately call our birth city, both are foodies and my nephew spent several years as a server at Blue Point, so knows his chefs and his food - he was really happy to see his former boss and good friend Chef Pete Joyce featured.

I have tried many of the recipes - in fact have prepared the entire menus - including Chef Dante Boccuzzi, Chef Steve Schimoler, Chef Pete Joyce, Chef Zach Bruell, Chef Michael Symon. Will mix and match soon! Every recipe is so easy to replicate and Maria is telling the truth: these menus can be done in an hour. I am lucky to be in walking distance of our iconic West Side Market, so ingredients are a snap, as well. For those of us fortunate enough to live in this culinary mecca and to visit the featured restaurants often, it is such fun to experience our favorite chefs' styles at home. For those of you who don't live here in Cleveland, once you have prepared these dishes you will understand why our chefs are culinary superstars!!

A tribute to the culinary excellence of Cleveland, Maria Isabella has succeeded in presenting a delightful glimpse into the lives of our most beloved chefs. I especially related to the premise of a meal cooked on short notice. Who hasn't found themselves in that position?

When asked by out-of-town visitors to recommend a restaurant, I beam with pride and reply "How many nights will you be in town... because we have some of the best restaurants anywhere."
