This is a short review to say just how much I'm enjoying the motion picture soundtrack to The Lake House. Though I now seem to be watching the DVD of The Lake House at least once every week, I'm listening to the musical soundtrack everyday. I wish Rosemary Clooney's song, There Will Never Be Another You, was on the CD, as well as the instrumental music that was played when Alex plants the tree in from of Kate's future apartment complex in Chicago. Still, this is a great CD with music that brings back the most wonderful memories of the movie. In my opinion, this is what movie music is supposed to do. A really good soundtrack has to be able to stand on its own, and The Lake House does with flying colors. If you enjoyed the film, then you'll love having the CD to listen to.

Perfect Album to Remember the Film,
By wunderlost "wunderlost" (silverlake, ca - usa) - See all my reviews

ALL the best songs from the film are on this album PLUS the complete score by Rachel Portman know for stunning scores on others films such as CHOCOLATE'. How can you go wrong with Paul McCartney, Carole King and Nick Drake? Plus the amazing opening title song by The Clientelle!
Although the two Rosemary Clooney songs are abset from this collection, they are not the from key emotional scenes in the film in the same way the above mentioned songs are. McCartney's tune does double duty in the film and as end titles. Carole King is played during one of the most important scenes in the entire movie. Nick Drake is absolutely moving and The Clientelle set the mood during the opening titles with perfect form. 5 STARS, BRAVO!

Very Creative plot,

What a great movie without blood, gore and a lot of swearing going on. My Father actually recommended that I see it. Excellent romantic movie. Loved Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves performance's in this. They have some terrific chemistry too. I recommend buying this for a really enjoyable romantic movie with a good twist to it. I could watch this over and over again.

Nice and pretty mellow,

I mainly got this CD because I really liked the Paul McCartney "This never happened before"/love theme for Kate and Alex. I was disappointed because some songs were missing from the soundtrack. I truly think they should have included the tree planting song (where Alex plants the tree in Chicago for Kate). That stated, it's still a good CD if you like the movie.

Lake House soundtrack CD,
This review is from: The Lake House (Audio CD)
This is nice music, but the important pieces from Brad Meldau and Rosemary Clooney are missing. They, along with the Sir Paul McCartney and Carole King pieces, are available on other media, but that begs the question: why buy the soundtrack, if it's not all the music from the movie?

Relaxed feelings all the way,

This is a relaxing soundtrack. I have the same feeling as I listen to jazz music. The songs and music contained in this CD are so good especially track 1 is one of the brilliant song selection in the movie. Track 6, 8, 10 are good music. So, this CD is so good and it is totally recommended.

Ulitmately Disappointing,

This soundtrack continues a disturbing trend in recent movie soundtrack releases: much of the movie's music -- often the best music -- is NOT on the CD. As much as I like Rachel Portman, I have to agree with the reviewers below: I'm disappointed that Rosemary Clooney's two songs aren't included. The only reasons to buy this CD are Paul McCartney, Carole King, and the Clientele, and you can probably get those songs on one of their recordigs. Interesting too, that you can't get those songs individually on I-Tunes -- you have to download the entire album. I smell a rat. In either format, don't waste your money.

Why can't these two actors make more movies together? They were so incredible together in SPEED as young actors and obviously they only improved with time. This movie was so incredibly romantic, I rented it and subsequently bought the DVD along with it's awesome Sound Track. You must get both. The sound track is so soothing, I play it all day long, while cooking or just relaxing with a cup of tea.
As others have said, don't try to analyze the movie too much. I've watched it over 6 times and I'm still puzzled over certain spots. Just enjoy the simple plot of a parallel universe where two lovers meet and set the screen on fire with their heat. One of the best romantic movies I've seen in a very long time.

I just finished watching the movie and my main problem with the soundtrack is that when the Paul McCartney song comes on in the film, it is supposed to be 2004, but that song is from Chaos and Creation, which was not released until 2005. I love that album, so I noticed the discrepancy right away. Also, there are some great songs in the movie that fit well with the story, but some were left off the soundtrack.
Other than that, you've got great songs by Carole King, Nick Drake and The Clientele and there's no doubt Rachel Portman is one of the best and most prolific film scorers out there. An OK addition to your collection if you like filmic instrumental music.
