Book Description

In the frozen wastes of Antarctica the Lance, an ancient weapon of unthinkable power--once lost and legendary--has been recovered. In the terrorized streets of Jerusalem, devastation is unleashed upon the eve of international peace. In the halls of power of Washington, D.C. a desperate plot set in motion during the final days of World War II has begun to unfold. Now Nick Carter and his team of deep black operatives from the PROJECT must race against time to stop events that will lead to the next World War. But to do that they must first stop those who already wield the Lance.

"Very good book. Reminds me of Steve Berry's Cotton Malone series. If you enjoy those you'll like the Project Series!"

5.0 out of 5 stars The Project Series...Better and Better! January 26, 2012
Format:Paperback
WOW! Alex Lukeman you have written one heck of a great series!

White Jade brought me into the world of The Project. I loved meeting Elizabeth Harker, who has the `ear' of our President. She leads a small group of dedicated people at The Project. At our first meeting with her I knew what she stood for: Truth Justice and The American Way...Sound corny? No not to me.

Nick Carter has a second sight. This was left to him from his Irish Grandmother who had it as well. His left ear itches to warn him of trouble. It comes in handy for the line of work he is in. Nick lost Megan, the love of his life, and still hasn't come to terms with this. His infatuation with Selena Connor has been the first awakening of feelings in him for long time.

Dreams of war and bombs and death keep threatening him. Selena has lost her family and was raised by an Uncle who was brutally murdered in White Jade. She has now joined The Project team. Elizabeth Harker, her assistant Stephanie, Ronnie and now a new comer The Shadow, Lamont have their hands full in this newest attempt stemming back to Adolph Hitler.

Mr Lukeman takes the reader from one end of the globe to the other, taking on the FBI, the CIA, Senators, Judges, and possibly even in the president's cabinet. I remember mentioning in my review of White Jade, the action was so real, the descriptions so clear, I saw it as a movie in my head.

This book did not disappoint either. Not to give any spoilers but for example picture this: the President is giving a speech in the Middle East. He is doing it outside, all eyes are on him. Nick is close by as his bodyguard. The ground explodes from beneath, as a bomb has been implanted in the ruins and tunnels below. The ground gives way becoming a cavernous hole.

3.0 out of 5 stars Like a Made for TV version of "Sigma Force" December 6, 2012
By Coach D
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This title was my first exposure to "The PROJECT". I did enjoy the story and the characters. I plan to read the other titles in this series (I already have Black Harvest (The PROJECT) on my Kindle). I just found this story not as complex or detailed as a typical James Rollins tale, such as: Map of Bones: A Sigma Force Novel or a Clive Clusser tale like: The Mediterranean Caper (Dirk Pitt Adventure). I would say a typical Rollins book is like a big buget movie, but a PROJECT book is more like a Made for TV movie. A good movie, but with a lower budget to spend on bells and whistles. Very much like comparing Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (Special Edition) to the TV movie Librarian : The Curse Of The Judas Chalice. I love them both. The Lance is light thriller reading, and like I said, I will try other PROJECT titles and see if the author progresses as he adds more titles to this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Lance September 18, 2011
By Glenn F
Format:Paperback
Another great thriller by Alex Lukeman. Hard to beat his first thriller, White Jade, but he does. Another book that is researched and meticulously written. Uses and descriptions of weapons and tactics are real and as a combat Infantryman I can attest to the use and description of all the weapons listed in the book The Lance. Awaiting his next book and wondering if It is going to be as great as the first two. A must read if you like thrillers. You won't be able to put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lance of Death December 14, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Alex Lukeman's brilliant THE LANCE is a sure fire winner that surpasses his previous thriller, WHITE JADE.
'The Lance' is the spear that pierced Christ's side long believed to hold special powers in the occult. German high commander, Dieter Reinhardt takes the stolen lance in the final days of WWII and transports it to special storage in Anarticia. Reinhardt leaves his son a legacy of knowledge except for the location of the lance. Men who hunger for power build a network of spider into the government waiting for the discovery its discovery.
Nicholas Carter and Elizabeth Harker (his boss) for the Project must protect the president. Each step they take is covered in death before they can learn the truth.
Money, death, brillance, fear, and doubt all play a roll in the romance of Nicholas and Selena, but a few obstacles are moved out of their way. In the spy world there are no guarantees all will ever be smooth sailing.
Fast paced, tight threads, big surprises, and a strong plot keep you reading long after midnight. Before you've reached the last page you are anticipating the next installment in this outstandingly written thriller.

5.0 out of 5 stars TRULY THRILLING- TRULY BRILLIANT January 23, 2012
Format:Paperback
"Aside from losing part of his ear and taking a few bullets over the years, former Marine Nick Carter is in pretty good shape. He works for an elite intelligence unit reporting to the President. But Nick is still having trouble getting over his fiancée, even though she's been dead eight years and he's sleeping with Selena Connor, one of his team. He's keeping his feelings about Selena locked up tight. When the Project sends him to Jerusalem on a routine assignment his contact turns up dead and someone keeps trying to kill him. Nick has stumbled into the end game of a dark conspiracy that reaches all the way from the ruins of Nazi Germany to the halls of power in modern day Washington. And if the PROJECT can't find a way to stop it, a lot of people are going to die."

In these days of character driven thrillers, few stand out. While often the stories are appealing, the lead characters lack that edge which begs for more books featuring him or her. Happily that is far from the case in The Lance by the wonderful Alex Lukeman. Nick Carter- no relation the famous radio detective of years past!- has been so well "word-painted" by Mr. Lukeman, that his strengths and weaknesses- and there are several as a person- not a character!- are deeply felt and appreciated by the reader. This is not an easy feat - yet a writer as skilled as Alex Lukeman seems to pull it off perfectly.

Thrillers should excite- and THE LANCE certainly succeeds in that- but it also educates and informs- about different cultures and locations- and that is quite a bonus for a book that is already quite a success as a thriller. The information gleamed about the Holy Land is a facinating addition to a must read novel. Very highly recommended for those who love their books exciting yet substantial!

Fine, I guess my only opinion of why I didn't get more stars was the unbelievable feats to get out of situations and arrive in time and find places, but it is fiction.
