Book Description

James Mueller has spent a lifetime of devotion to his wife Alejandra, and now as her life draws to a close, he looks back to the beginning when it seemed that time and fate conspired to keep them apart.

A story that ends even as it begins, The Last Dance tells of two souls meant to be together but torn apart by war, misunderstandings and hurt. Bittersweet and deeply romantic, it moves through the significant moments in the lives of these two star-crossed lovers, raising the question not of if but how James and Alejandra will ever find their way back to each other and the love they were destined to share.

From a chance meeting to a look and a touch, to the promises made and the disappointment found, The Last Dance is a story of loss, longing, hope and faith, as James and Alejandra are forced to examine who they are and what they really need if they are ever to turn their fairy-tale romance into a lifelong love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Make's you think... July 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
First, this isn't the type of book that I normally read, but it came highly recommended, so I downloaded a sample. Soon, I downloaded the whole thing. This is a well written book, with great characters. Stories are great, but I invest in characters, and I bought the two principles hook, line, and sinker.

Mr McIntyre's style makes reading effortless, and it drew me in right away. I liked the characters, and through the book I found myself relating to them. Relating to that fact that life is, more than anything, consistently unfair, and that faith and love can get you through those very tough times. I related to the sense of loss in the book, and the fact that love requires a the risk of loss, and that life often gives us the opportunity to redeem ourselves, and the time we spend.

The book made me consider. It was one of those works that made me examine myself and my priorities in a way that only the written word can. I like that in a book. I like being entertained and transported, but I like to be challenged. A good book is a mirror that one can see themselves in, and this book, in that regard, was spot on. It wasn't preachy, but it was relatable.

Mostly, I think Wyatt writes with grace, and finding grace in writing is a rare thing these days. I liked the style and content of the work, especially the bittersweet notes. This is a very good book, and I recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Romantic, touching, and a joy to read September 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Before reading this book, I knew how old the author was. Sometimes, that's a good thing, sometimes not.

Mr. McIntyre is a young man, and it's his first book of fiction--a love story yet. Love stories are deeply personal, so I was intrigued but slightly apprehensive. How would someone his age portray a love that transcends war, loss, and the cruelty of the passage of time? How would he tell a sweeping epic that I assumed was beyond his own personal experience?

I am very happy Mr. McInytre's treatment of James' and Alejandra's story is done with such care. His skill as an author is certainly not measured by his biological years or his time spent writing fiction. Personal experiences aside, he's dug deep to draw on sadness, pain, and love to create a novel that is truly beautiful.

That the author is also a poet is by no means a coincidence. He weaves a rich tapestry with his prose and lavishes beauty upon his characters. Beauty--not just in the physical sense, but in the very human sense. The dialogue dances like poetic stanzas off the page. The exposition, though at times lengthy, never bores.

In his novel, Mr. McIntyre makes us realize that life is ultimately short, and the human heart, though resilient is oftentimes fragile. Kindness, grace, and empathy are qualities we wish we could all experience more often. The Last Dance embraces these qualities in a love story that is romantic, touching, and a joy to read.

Kudos to Mr. McIntyre for an incredible debut novel.

McIntyre has produced a lyrical masterpiece with The Last Dance, a novel which follows the story of James and Alejandra as they traverse the often daunting road of love.

In its opening pages, The Last Dance reveals to its readers the ending. And you would think knowing this - where our James and Alejandra end up - would spoil their tale. When in fact, it does anything but. The finality of their story is so captivating, so heart wrenching, and so emotional, that it grabs us. Speaks to us in the most special of places deep within our heart, our soul, and makes us want to join them. To see how they got there. For their story is not a fairytale or fantastical in any way. It is real. And it is what all of us wish and dream and hope for each and every day.

Told at varying points in their lives, McIntyre feeds us little morsels of their journey. Satiating our hunger for more just enough to keep us turning. Keep us begging. The words which fill this novel are eloquent and roll off the page with a stunning ease.

Just as is the case in real life, love doesn't come easy, nor at the moment or way we expect it. But in their tale, we are reminded of what makes love and life and everything in-between possible: hope and faith. It is a reminder that happiness awaits each of us if we fight hard enough and, most importantly, never stop believing.

It is quite symbolic that the author chose this title - The Last Dance - as it reads as one long, beautiful, and soulful song. It is as if we see James and Alejandra dancing, swaying gracefully to the heartbeat of their story.

In a sea of familiar, it is hard to find novels which stand out.

5.0 out of 5 stars A love story of a lifetime August 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The Last Dance is a love story of a lifetime that will leave readers analyzing their own relationships, wondering if they have or will ever have what James and Alejandra found in a chance meet in a quiet little diner. From the days before the attack on Pearl Harbor when they first fall in love, to after the war's end exactly four years later and on until nearly the next decade, we wonder how they will ever find each other again, and what will happen when they do. Page after page Wyatt McIntyre draws us in, teasing us with little, romantic tidbits.

...."I've spent my entire life moving in a slow waltz with you, Alejandra..."

....If this was their last moment together he wanted to spend it holding her in his arms.

....Alejandra quivered at his touch. Is this how it feels when dreams come true?

McIntyre knows how to tell a love story.

Although we know from the beginning that it will all turn out, McIntyre hooked me because I had to know how James and Alejandra met, and what it was that drove them away from each other and then what it took to bring them back together.

I look forward to seeing more from this new author.
