The Last Man on Earth (Enhanced) 1964 starring Vincent Price

This film has been enhanced using a Video Enhancement Program that reduces noise and enhances video quality.

How do you pass your days as the last man on Earth? For Robert Morgan it involves cleaning the streets of those killed by the plague and killing vampires as they sleep. Nights are no better since the vampires are looking for him. For Robert this is a daily ritual until he meets another survivor named Ruth. Can Robert and Ruth get a cure so others don t become vampires in time to return the world to normal?

The Last Man on Earth is based on the Richard Matheson novel I Am Legend. It has been made into several movies, including being the basis for the 2007 movie by the same name. In this version Vincent Price stars as Robert Morgan, the only known survivor of a mysterious plague that turns its victims into vampire-like creatures. Franca Bettoia plays Ruth, the woman Robert meets who lives with a group of infected individuals. They treat themselves frequently in order to retain their human qualities. The Last Man on Earth was filmed in Italy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Triad Edition is Incorrect Format December 23, 2008
Format:DVD
Until the theatrical release of "I Am Legend," I was under the impression that "The Omega Man" was the first adaptation of the Richard Matheson novel, "I Am Legend." The new version of the film generated buzz, after which everything about the novel and the various versions was discussed in all the film forums. Vincent Price, I learned, had starred in the very first version made in 1964. The forums had good things to say about it as a film, and that, despite its low budget, it had lots of ambiance. Upon a recommendation, I downloaded it from the public domain, but was unsatisfied with the condition of the print. For one, it's degraded, which is typical of films in the public domain. Not only that, just like this "enhanced" Triad edition, the format was incorrect: it was in "full screen." The original aspect ratio is 2.35:1, which means WIDESCREEN. That means that the copy in the public domain is NOT a copy of the studio print. The same goes for the Triad edition: however they've "enhanced" it, they don't have access to an actual print of the film to restore it to its proper widescreen aspect ratio. Plainly put, the Triad edition is not the best copy available, and at the price they're charging, it should be.

If you're interested in seeing this film in its proper aspect ratio, in pristine condition, I highly recommend the MGM release, "The Last Man on Earth," right here at Amazon for about half the price of this improperly framed Triad edition.
