More About the Author

Nico Rosso was a writer in search of a genre until his wife, Zoë Archer, brought romance into his life in more ways than one. He created the sci-fi romance Limit War series, and set off the apocalypse in The Last Night. With the steampunk Ether Chronicles, he got to write more closely than ever with his wife, trading off tales that span the globe. In Demon Rock, he takes you into the dark world of satyr rock stars and the Muses who feed them.

Description
In a post-apocalyptic world, where horrible creatures called fire eaters rule, the last remaining humans fight to survive day to day with no end in sight. Erica is with a group of survivors living in an old collapsed hotel and she knows life will never be like it was before the devastating earthquakes. But then a sexy stranger comes riding in on his motorcycle and saves her from a group of fire eaters and now her life doesn't seem so meaningless. Together they go on a mission to find a safe place to live, where they can be safe and maybe they'll find something else while they're looking...love!

Review
I got this book on NetGalley because it sounded interesting and then I forgot about it. Last night I was bored looking for something different to read, something that isn't all sunshine and roses and sex, sex, sex. I found it in this book! I should have read it as soon as I got it from NetGalley because I missed out! I've read other reviews for this book and I really am having a hard time understanding why it's rated so low. I mean the writing isn't perfect and some of the action/fight scenes were a little too much but it was a great idea. I haven't read anything like this and the books that were similar aren't that similar. It was very refreshing to find something so different than my norm.

The characters were great, I love how well Erica and Jake fit! Sorry if this sounds corny but they're a match made in heaven, or in this case it's probably a match made in hell. And I like how the author focused on those two main characters, I wasn't bombarded with detail after detail of secondary characters. He kept it short and simple. This world he created, after the earthquakes and fire eaters destroyed it was very creative.

I started reading this but it just didn't do it for me. It felt...I cant explain it. Maybe this was their first book? I couldn't finish it.

Since the blurb describes the plot perfectly let me just jump right into what I thought of THE LAST NIGHT.

I've been excited to check out Nico Rosso's work since reading an interview with him last year. There are plenty of men who write love stories but I've honestly never heard of one who writes romance before so the novelty of it put him on my radar. Fortunately, his writing falls into genres I love so I was really looking forward to the release of THE LAST NIGHT. With a slight difference in how the love scenes were worded (especially the use of a certain word that you don't commonly see female romance novelists use) the only big thing that made it obvious it was written by a guy was that the action scenes were very manly. lol Yeah, I know that's not a great way to explain it but think summer blockbuster movie styling and you get the idea. It works really well!

The actual world building and freaky concept of the Ashers is really cool. I love originality in my apocalyptic tales and Rosso knocked this one out of the ballpark. To be honest I wanted this not to be a romance just so there'd be much more about that aspect of the story. If you're bored of zombie apocalypses this is one worth snapping up.

The actual romance left something to be desired. Erica and Jake both felt really cookie-cutter to me. They were likable but not lovable and they fall in love within 24 hours. They even comment on it during the last few pages and yet that didn't excuse how unrealistic it felt. They barely know each other and it was definitely not love at first sight so I just couldn't buy it. Maybe if this had been a full length novel and they'd had much longer to get to that point I could have felt it but I just didn't.
