Brian R. Doak (PhD, Harvard University) is assistant professor of biblical studies and faculty fellow in the William Penn Honors Program at George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon. He is also the author of Consider Leviathan: Narratives of Nature and the Self in Job (Fortress, 2014) and co-author of The Bible: Ancient Context and Ongoing Community (2014).

Brian R. Doak (Ph.D. Harvard University) is Assistant Professor of Biblical Studies and Faculty Fellow in the William Penn Honors Program at George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon. He is the winner of the 2012 Aviram Prize for archaeological research and the 2014 George Fox University Undergraduate Researcher of the Year.

Professor Doak is the author of three books: CONSIDER LEVIATHAN: NARRATIVES OF NATURE AND THE SELF IN JOB (Fortress, 2014), THE BIBLE: ANCIENT CONTEXT AND ONGOING COMMUNITY (Kendall Hunt, rev. printing 2015), and THE LAST OF THE REPHAIM: CONQUEST AND CATACLYSM IN THE HEROIC AGES OF ANCIENT ISRAEL (Ilex Foundation; Center for Hellenic Studies; via Harvard University Press, 2012).

Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Excellent use of the comparative method to bring out facets of myths that are best understood when placed alongside other myths. This book is much better than many books of a similar nature that do little more than point out parallels between texts; Doak also takes the next step and shows how these parallels should affect our reading of Biblical and Greek myths.
