MARILYN MANSON
THE PALE EMPEROR

Biography.

Conjured from a séance into a true renaissance. This is, without a doubt, bona fide Marilyn Manson.

It is all swagger and does not miss a beat on his ninth, newest studio album, THE PALE EMPEROR. The seer, scribe, painter, actor, criminal, panderer of chaos, live performer...oh, and rock and roll demagogue, thee Marilyn ... Read more in Amazon's Marilyn Manson Store

Product Description

Amazon.com

Is a Marilyn Manson studio album like thunder without lightning? The name Manson is synonymous with stage theatrics, and studio albums aren't designed to capture such flashing, ephemeral excitement. That being the case, a live Marilyn Manson album is one step up from a studio disc and one notch down from a concert. This powerful 14-song, 70-minute set actually ends with one studio track, "Astonishing Panorama of the Endtimes" (also on the Celebrity Deathmatch album). Featuring such Manson concert favorites as "The Beautiful People," "The Dope Show," and the band's breakthrough cover of Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams," The Last Tour on Earth is incendiary, expletive-strewn, and darkly irresistible. Manson is a commanding performer, though not one for the young or upright, as he spews on about LSD and sex with cops, performs "Antichrist Superstar," and has the audience chanting "We hate love, we love hate!" prior to a particularly raucous rendition of "Irresponsible Hate Anthem." That said, The Last Tour on Earth is an exhilarating outing from one of the '90s' boldest personalities. --Katherine Turman

The very last song, track fourteen, "Astonishing Panorama Of The Endtimes," is a pretty good song/b-side.

If you dont like Manson well then just.......go listen to hanson or backstreet boys and keep your mouth shut because whatever you say is ignorant.

The best songs here are Irresponsible Hate Anthem, Antichrist Superstar, and one of my fave Manson tracks, Great Big White World.

I must say that when I first put this CD in the CD player and listened to it I was blown away, the talent of Manson and his band members is astounding. And I cannot BELIEVE that some people are ignorant enough to say Manson is a weak songwriter! As I have heard some say before, If Bob Dylan were to put some of these lines from Manson's songs in his songs he would be considered the reincarnation of Jesus Christ. I really enjoyed this album and I could just see Manson on stage performing with the band and the back-up singers. This album is his best since AntiChrist Superstar. It may even be better. Now to some of you who have left negative comments about this CD, (If you just complained only about the music, then this does not apply to you, it only applies to those who are judging Manson for who he is.) most of you most likely never even HEARD any of the songs on this cd and I think you're nothing but narrow minded a**holes. Another thing, you talk about your Christian values and everything and talk about how much a horrible pest Manson is, but what about in the bible where it says "Judge lest ye be judged." According to the bible you have NO right whatsoever to judge Manson, his opinions, his actions, or his beliefs. Unless you want to be judged in the same way by God... I respect Manson for fighting back against the hypocrites and narrow-minded people of this country and I can't wait until his next album.

This is good stuff. I love Manson, and this album is great, the sound quality is very good. From the opening, the eerie "Inaugration of the Mechanical Christ", which launches into a screaming rendition of "The Reflecting God", this album is excellent. Some songs, like "Rock is Dead" and especially "Antichrist Superstar" sound better live in my opinion. "Lunchbox" and "I Don't like the Drugs" are cool because Manson talks to the crowd - it's all good. There's a couple of really cool moments, from the audience clapping in the beginning of "Sweet Dreams" to Irresponsible Hate Anthem's classic "and all the children sing . . . we hate love, we love hate". This is must-have if you're a Manson fan, and although I think the sound quality could've been just a bit better, it's still quite good. Plus you get the great "Astonishing Panorama of the End Times". My only complaint is it doesn't have "Mechanical Animals" which was my favorite song off the album.

This is the most exciting live hard rock recording since the Ozzy/ Randy Rhodes Tribute album. Manson is a preternaturally brilliant entertainer, and his transcendingly engrossing and absorbing stage show is captured wonderfully here. Made my speakers bleed.

This album is worth picking up, but really doesn't showcase all of Manson's best work. I realize that not all live cds are greatest hits cds but he could've had some different songs on here. The sound quality isn't superb, but it's way better than any bootleg I own and isn't bad either. The best tracks on here are definitely Great Big White World, The Beautiful People, and The Last Day On Earth (acoustic version). The studio track in the end is also great, it was an outtake from the Antichrist Superstar sessions. I think it would have fit in right around the beginning of the album (not important, just thought I'd share that). I really like the studio version to The Reflecting God better because the chorus part is different. I really enjoy the speech in the beginning of I Don't Like The Drugs, it really reminds me of a live Doors recording my mother has lying around. For all of you people who come on here and talk about how he's the devil, ... you haven't even heard the album so you have no business coming in here and giving it bad reviews. You're techincally committing a sin anyway because you agreed that you've heard the cd and you haven't. Back to the album, if you're a Manson fan pick it up, for those casual fans, maybe later down the line, and for non-fans, stay in your commericalized TRL world and look at your Britney Spears posters.

Now, I am a pretty big Manson fan, and have been since sometime in '95 or so, and I must say that I really enjoyed this album. I have to disagree with the general consensus that the Beautiful People is better here than on Antichrist; I personally prefer the studio version due to it's itensely pounding synthetic beats. I like drums, don't get me wrong, and if I didn't ahve a pre-existing version of TBP in my head I may hav felt differently. As for the rest of it, it is very good, and manson's antics are highly entertaining. I absolutely love End Times, but can see why it was cut from Antichrist. It is superior to many of the songs on that album, but serves the same purpose as The Reflecting God in terms of storyline, which is a masterpiece. Astonishing panorama... however, is a marvellous bridge between Antichrist and Mechanical Animals. All in all, a highly enjoyable purchase, worth every penny and worth listening to again and again.

This CD is actually better than I thought. A lot of live recordings are all distorted and it is difficult to hear the music. But this was recorded very well. A few songs like The Beautiful People and Anti-christ Superstar are a little distorted from their album recordings, but that is expected on a live album. But songs like Sweet Dreams and Last Day on Earth are actually recorded quite nicely. This album could almost be considered a compilation of greatest hits. It has all the classic songs as well as a couple not on any of Manson's albums.
