Book Description

When the movie starts, the horror becomes real.

It was a run-down old multi-plex in a seedy part of town. But it had a special late-night festival of the cheap horror movies one group of friends loved, movies filled with zombies, vampires and backwoods maniacs.

How could they know it was a very special screening indeed? After the friends split up and their chosen movies began, they found themselves transported out of the life they knew and into the blood-drenched worlds of the films. Worlds where the living dead roam the countryside, the decrepit mansion of a vampire and his minions dominates the night sky, and the shrill scream of a buzz saw is always right behind you.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Here's an author exploding onto the genre."
—Edward Lee, author of House Infernal

“Fans of old school horror, rejoice. Bryan Smith is quickly making his mark on the scene."
—The Horror Fiction Review

“Good characters, a good story and some nasty imagery combine to make The Freakshow one of the most fun reads I've had in a long time. I can't wait to see what Smith does next, though it's going to be very hard to top The Freakshow!

5.0 out of 5 stars One hell of a fun ride April 6, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've read Bryan Smith, intermittently, since I caught one of his early books in paperback from Leisure. I liked it. Hadn't caught back up with him in this new digital age, but just bought this title about three days ago and finished it last night. So glad I did. This was a fun, unrelenting, thrill ride. The story just got better and better and while I don't want to give anything away, the interconnected faucets of the plot kept you racing through the book. A wonderful experience and I would highly recommend this to any fan of horror literature. Well done, Bryan, and I'll be picking up more of your titles in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE LATE NIGHT HORROR SHOW is about to begin! February 23, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
THE LATE NIGHT HORROW SHOW is Bryan Smith's new novel and it is one of his best. SHOW starts off with a few friends going to a theatre to see a movie...what happens next is a mind-bending series of events that will haunt you days after finishing the novel. Smith has created a world where unbelievable things are happening...but he makes it seem like they really could. Great characters in an engaging plot surrounded by gore, blood, murder and mayhem. Bryan Smith continues his run of great horror novels and it is great to see him in print with Smahaim publishing, as the editor there, Don DeLauria, was the editor at Leisure when that house was delivering the best in the horror genre. Smith adds to Samhain's great lineup of writers.

Bryan Smith is the lastest in up and coming authors that I would rate as top-notch in story telling that captures you right at the beginning and doesn't let up until the end. It's like a roller coaster ride ....scary - but scary fun.

Of course, the violence and gore is abundant, so for those with weak constitutions ...they may want to stick with more sedate fare like old Stephen King novels.

Stephen King was the master during his reign and Bryan Smith is now the new King and has taken up the baton and pushed the envelope that much further.

The Late Night Horror Show was the perfect horror novel. It started out with a bang and did not let up at all. I really enjoyed the different stories blended into the one 'HORROR' show.. I read it one sitting; it is the best Bryan Smith novel I have ever read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Like reading a fun slasher film March 17, 2014
Format:Paperback
A bunch of twenty-something's, all with their favourite kind of horror movies (vampire, zombie, slasher) get more than they bargained for when seeing a horror marathon. They are pulled into the movies & find out the hard way it's much more fun to watch horror than to live it. This is a fun novel, the equivalent of watching one of the better cheesy horror movies of the 80's & 90's especially. You can't go wrong if that's your kind of thing. I enjoyed it very much.

Because once the film begins - you are in the middle of the action.
It's a fun idea. The local multi plex is having a horror fest. Come on in and pick your favorite type of horror flic, grab some popcorn and your girl. Only problem is that once the film begins, you are tranported into it. So is it real? A dream? Either way you've got to find some way to survive what is coming at you. Chain saw killers, Zombies and Vampires are in control and you are on the run.

The charactors are just likeable enough to make you care and the action keeps you moving forward at a nice clip.
It just seemed that there should have been just a little more. As I said, a fun idea... it just needed one more push to kick it into "Wow!"
