Product Description

The Lawless Years is Cadillac driving, booze fueled, tommy gun blazing stories of cops and gangsters in prohibition era New York. New York City Police Detective Sergeant Barney Ruditsky was the technical adviser of the series, which was loosely based on his exploits as the head of the famed New York Gangster Squad that made over 5,000 arrests. This squad took into custody virtually every prominent criminal operating in the city in the 1920s and the 1930s.

This authentic docudrama starring James Gregory Barney Miller, The Manchurian Candidate and directed by Allen H. Miner Perry Mason, M-Squad, Wagon Train will hit you with the compelling realism of life as a 1920s bootlegger and have you riding shotgun with some of the bravest police officers to work the streets of The Big Apple.

Featured guest stars include Vic Morrow, Clu Gulager, Robert Fuller, Burt Reynolds, Harry Dean Stanton, Martin Landau, Warren Oates and many more! Includes all 45 episodes which originally aired from 1959-1961. B&W

Timeless Media Group's recent release of the Lawless Years was thought to be complete, but it has been brought to our attention that two episodes The Mad Dog Coll Story parts 1 & 2, had in fact been overlooked. Since being notified of the omission, we have attempted to locate copies of the missing episodes, but have been unable to do so. Timeless Media Group would like to express our sincere apologies to our customers. --Timeless Media Group - Production Team

2.0 out of 5 stars The INCOMPLETE Series October 9, 2012
Verified Purchase
Timeless Media is great in the fact that they release long forgotten series, but with regard to quality, their releases are very much hit or miss. Some of them are as good as the major studios, while others are on the poor side. Unfortunately, this eagerly awaited release, a very good companion to The Untouchables, is only fair. The first three disks in this set are the exact same ones that were in their earlier Season One (which was actually Season One and half of Season Two)release. The same hideous sepia tone prints, the same video glitches. The fact that they didn't bother to remaster these three disks when they obviously had better prints at their disposal shows the slipshod approach taken in regard to this set. The second three disks, which comprise the second half of Season Two and Season Three, and are the new episodes released in this set, are mercifully free of the sepia tone and are in proper black and white.
Unfortunately there are two episodes missing from Season Three. The two part "Mad Dog Coll Story" is not included, which is why there are only 45 episodes instead of the 47 there should be, and which were originally announced on TV Shows on DVD.Com.
What's the reason for their omission? Was it an oversight? Were the episodes not available? Do they plan to put out a corrected set as in the case of Whispering Smith? Who knows? But calling this set the Complete Series is simply not true. That and the failure to upgrade the first three disks is a major dissapointment to those looking foreward to this release.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Complete September 26, 2012
Verified Purchase
Very disappointing. Even though the description claims there are 45 episodes, there were in fact 47 in total. And unfortunately, the only reason I purchased this entire set was to see the two episodes which happen to be missing (Mad Dog Coll Story, Parts 1 and 2). Don't claim this is a "complete series" when there are in fact some episodes missing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Release 'Mad Dog Coll' in A 2nd Volume October 11, 2012
By GranO
For the many of us who own the first volume, please release a second volume containIng the rest of the series, including the omitted episodes, Mad Dog Coll, parts I and II. And it would be good to give those 2 omitted episodes to people who bought the advertised complete series, and did not get a 'complete' series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Classic TV Show October 1, 2013

Despite the discolored, sepia like tone of the picture, it is still very clear with good sound quality. I applaud Timeless Media for releasing this complete series set. The stories are based on the real life memoirs of NYC detective Barney Ruditsky, very well played by James Gregory. The show is set during the Roaring Twenties, like the more popular show "The Untouchables". However, this show came out first and is actually a better quality show, with more interesting stories, better directing and set designs and better acting for the most part. The show also had much better guest stars, like Vic Morrow, Clu Gulager, Burt Reynolds, Harry Dean Stanton, Warren Oates and Robert Fuller.
As I said, I applaud Timeless Media for their efforts to release several much loved classic shows. I've purchased many of them, such as "Laramie", "Wagon Train", "The Virginian", "The Tales of Wells Fargo", as well as, "The Lawless Years". With the exception of "Laramie", they have all been very well done, especially the other westerns, but I can live with the sepia tone of The Lawless Years since the picture and sound are otherwise excellent. I'm very glad I made this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Lawless Years TV show October 1, 2013

Was promptly shipped and well-packaged. I am delighted that the entire series is finally available on DVD. Watched this on TV when it initially aired but it was a rather short-lived program - unfortunately!
