Working as a Trainer/Coach for a big, multinational corporation, I purchased "The Leader Phrase Book" in the hope that I could use it to support my colleagues who are aspiring leaders. Unfortunately I have been disappointed by most of what I read.

A powerful person, a leader, is never rude, because rudeness shows weakness. A leader is supposed to be a role model and a role model needs to have excellent communication skills and show exemplary behavior.

Someone who felt compelled to say "You better shut your mouth before you put your foot in it" (p.26), "Did someone forget their ADD meds" (p.52), "No wonder you don't have any friends" (p.83), "Kiss my ass" (p.85) etc. is acting in a childish, bullying manner and is not the type of person that I could respect or would look up to. Furthermore, "Don't get your knickers in a twist" (p.143) is downright sexist. If anyone I know used half the phrases in this book, I would consider them aggressive, insecure and ridiculous.

The title of the book is misleading, most of these phrases having nothing to do with leadership. I think that "The Smart-Ass Phrase Book" would be a more accurate title.

This book.was a complete disappointment. Basically, it was a list of language to use in certain situations. The author included sarcasm (not a great strategy for 21st century leaders) and idioms (again, not great) He also included Machiavellian techniques and offered ways to make someone look like a fool. this is not the type of leader I want to be!!

The tongue is a powerful tool or a dangerous weapon. What sets this book apart from others is how it presents leadership phrases in a range from positive to adversarial. The topics cover a wide range of both professional and personal situations. You still need wisdom and discipline to choose the correct response for your circumstances but this book will give you the verbal ammunition you need.

Being an executive coach I have to deal with new and midline managers as well as business owners and the executives. The leader phrase book helped me in many aspects. It encourages you to great extent. I pretty much used the content as it targets a lot of important points of life. I loved "when someone in angry" and "how to deal with a liar" parts of the book. It is brilliantly written.

The Leader Phrase Book is ideal for preparing for a conversation or for checking afterwards how one could have handled it better. It is organized by situations and lets you easily check on the right or simply an alternative way to phrase something, similar to a thesaurus only for conversations. Over time it makes a real difference in how others perceive you. It can make you more likable, more authoritative, more confident ... in other words, you will speak and come across like a good leader. Highly recommended!

I strongly recommend it to people who want to start a new business or are just entering the corporate field as this book will perfectly guide them to communicate like a true leader; with tact and without. The phrases are expertly chosen and very effective. All the chapters are perfectly arranged and target important points one by one to build up a complete phrase guide for a leader in any situation. This book is appropriate for beginners, but is also a great reference for anyone in a leadership position. It allows you to communicate your way to being a more successful leader. This book is easy to understand. It not only provides helpful tips in every chapter, but actually tells you exactly what to say. Weather you deal with just one person, hundreds, or even thousands your ability to get them to perform at their best on your behalf is the key to your success. It is amazing how much power there is in a phrase.

This book is great for helping you determine the right communication strategy for every situation. I especially like chapter 8 and the bonus section. There are so many books that claim to enable you success in business but they either consist of difficult jargon or simply too good to be true. This ones different and can be used like a handbook.

I like The Leader Phrase Book because of its broad situational applicability and immediately implementable recommendations. This book helps new and experienced professionals build out their communications toolkit with approaches that will help them gracefully navigate difficult situations. Whether one desires to be formal or casual, courteous or rude, The Leader Phrase Book can be used to prepare for difficult conversations and, with practice, its phrases will become second nature; enabling the professional to adapt `on-the-fly' when challenging circumstances arise. For its quality and actionable insights, The Leader Phrase Book is a StrategyDriven recommended read.
