Kid Pix is the Best!!,
By Rob Elhardt (Novato, CA United States) - See all my reviews Kid Pix Deluxe 3 is a brand new product built on the same great philosophy: to provide kids with the most open-ended, creative art and multimedia experience possible. Kid Pix creations can include backgrounds, animations, stickers, stamps, text, music, imported photos or movies, self-recorded sounds, and more. The interface is fun, easy-to-use, and lively with sound and motion (the buttons wiggle and the brushes squish when you use them). Once you have a finished picture there's a whole new set of options - make a slide show with great visual and sound effects; export it as a movie or flash animation for the family web page, or share it with all your friends and relatives through the Kid Pix Email Center. Kid Pix really is for kids of all ages. Even teenagers (a generally sullen bunch) have given us rave reviews. I hope you'll try Kid Pix Deluxe 3. I haven't found a kid yet who didn't think it was the coolest.

Fantastic program, and does run under XP,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
After two years of use, my 8- and 5-year-olds are still discovering new things in this program. It has held their interest more consistently than any of the other highly-rated programs we own. The range of patterns, colors, textures, images, backgrounds, transformation effects, sound effects, and even animations is stunning. While I agree that text tooltips would be nice, it should be a configurable option (by user) since they are distracting to non-readers moving the mouse around. I have not noticed either of my kids having problems grokking the interface (though more than one level of "Undo" would be nice - kids change their minds!). The README file with menu instructions is right there in the KidPix program group when you navigate to it from "All Programs", and within the menu Help item is a complete PDF User Guide. Re Windows XP: I've had it under XP for 18 months, with no problems. Two things to try, especially if startup is very slow: 1. Exclude it from auto-protect virus scanning (you can still cover it in your regular full-disk virus scans); 2. Right-click on the KidPix icon, select Properties, and under the Compatibility tab try selecting Windows 95/98, graphics options, etc. I have not had to use either of these tricks on KidPix, though they were needed for some other games. You could also try upgrading QuickTime, on which KidPix depends heavily. It has worked brilliantly for us. Sorry this review is so long, but I hate to see a truly excellent program dinged on technical grounds when it doesn't deserve to be. Enjoy!

Disappointing- not as kid friendly as Disney Magic Artist,
We just got Kid Pix 3 as an upgrade from the original Disney Magic Artist, and frankly, the kids and I are all disappointed. The program is poorly documented. There is no clear way to bring back saved pictures to work on them after the original session. My children are familiar with the program from school, but they agree that it doesn't come close to matching the capabilities of the Disney program. The only advantage this program has over the original Disney Magic Artist is the availability of animated stickers, and if you buy the most recent of the Disney versions, you'll get animated stickers there as well. As long as your children don't mind having Mickey and friends appearing in their art studio, I suggest you go for Magic Artist. It pains me to spend so much of my entertainment budget with the Disney folks- they almost seem to monopolize my kid's life outside of school- but you can't argue with the excellence of their products. In the meantime, I and many other parents are waiting for someone other than Disney to come out with an excellent art studio for children.

Family Fun,
By A Customer
I just bought Kid Pix Deluxe 3rd Edition. I bought it for my 3 year old son and he loves it. It is simple enough for him to use. We have only had it for 2 days now and he already knows how to change the brushes, colors, etc. This product also keeps his attention. There are amazing sound effects to go with every action. My husband and I have fun with the more advanced features, paper texture, adding sounds and personal pictures, etc. The best part of the product is the e-mail component. It let's you send your creations to friends and family. This product is a great entertainment for the whole family, from the littlest to the oldest. I highly recommend it.
