This dramatic adventure is not without its pitfalls: The accompanying graphics are unsophisticated (the talking townspeople and fellow sojourners suffer from "lip flap"), the sound effects aren't terribly inventive, and inexperienced players are ill equipped to make strategic decisions so important to the game. The trip across the Rockies isn't quick--players may start to feel they could have made the actual journey in less time than it takes to complete it virtually--and the three increasingly challenging levels of play designed to keep participation interesting don't do the trick for long. But the skills to be learned along the way make these points easier to overlook. At the helm of this Western adventure, players sharpen decision-making and planning skills, learn to be responsible for others, and pick up loads of facts about the history and geography of the western United States. Whether an enhancement to a weekly American history lesson or a historically based alternative to The Sims, this trip west will bring out the pioneer in everyone. (Ages 10 and older) --Leah Ball

Pioneer Girl living in 2005,
This review is from: Oregon Trail II (CD-ROM)
I enjoyed this game alot! In the beginning you decide the number of people that travel with you, and their names and ages.
you can also pick where you start from, your name, what year it is, what your job is, (the amount of money you start out with depends on what your job is) extra skills, what month it is, and where you want to go. (your options depend on what year you pick.) then you buy supplies and animals and set off.( you also get to decide what wagon train that you set off with.) you can hunt if you have a firearm, bullets, and gunpowder. and when you come to rivers, you can check the conditions of the river. and if you choose wisely in whether you caulk the wagon and float, ford the river, take the ferry, take the toll bridge, or hire some Indians to help, you might not tip your wagon! there are forts, towns, and trading posts along the way, and you can trade with people. When you come to forks in the road, you get to decide which road to take. if you don't rest (you get to choose when you rest and for how long)or don't have healthy food, you or one of your companions might get sick. And if you don't have the right medicines to give them or yourself, you might die. You also, get to decide how many hours per day that you travel, and how much food you eat per day. If you come to a desert, you decide if you wait till the evenings to travel or if you travel by day. get ready and take your journey on "THE OREGON TRAIL" buy it today!

I love this game! I had it when I was a child and its my favorite out of the all of the Oregon Trails. I feel like it gives the player the most control over the wagon party. My only issue is that it isn't compatible with the 64bit Windows. Luckily I was about to reinstall Windows when I discovered this, otherwise I would be pretty annoyed it doesn't state this fact in the product description.

I have played this game before, so I thought I should get a copy for myself. However, the disappointment is that it is not compatible with 64 bit, and this was not stated in the product description. I have tried clicking on the link "Connect to Webpage" and all I get is an error message. Is there a way of downloading it on 64 bit?
