Book Description

North Carolina native, Cisely Matthews has seen and suffered much in her twenty-two years of life, and she has the scars to prove it. When amazing blessings come to her, she wonders if she will ever feel worthy enough to deserve them.

Australian-born Ingo Kelly is thrown for an emotional loop when he visits his aunt in Utah and meets Cisely for the first time. He falls for her hard and fast. But getting her to accept his love is a challenge he is more than willing to take on.

Adagio St. John is Ingo's best friend and the two are as close as brothers. When Adagio travels to Utah from his home in Italy to attend Ingo and Cisely's wedding, he is overjoyed that his friend has found happiness with such an amazing woman. He hopes he can find the same happiness one day and end the loneliness he struggles with on a daily basis. There are prospects aplenty, but none of the shallow beauties can capture his heart.

When love does finally come to Adagio, will he allow himself to embrace it or continue to go it alone?

What Readers are Saying

“It's a blessing to read a story that is well thought out and filled with promise. Your characters experience life unique to them but no matter what befalls them, they never give up. We need more books like this. In today's era it is so easy for people to experience bad things and let those things change them into bad people that inflict the same pain on others. People need to be reminded that you are a product of what you experience this is true, but you are also made up of the choices you make in response to what you have been through. We all make mistakes but that doesn't mean you have to give up and give in. As long as you breathe, want to and then choose to you can always change. God is just waiting for the want to be there. Here I am, running off at the mouth like a star struck teenager LOL.”

“This is the most captivating read I have had for a good while. I couldn't put it down.”

“Jewel Adams has written a wonderful book that has intertwined many story lines. Just when you think you know where she is going with a story line, she fools you and the story takes an unexpected turn. You had better have a tissue box next to you also. There are several times in the story that you will cry. Jewel has touched my heart in several places by hitting very close to home with more than one story line. She has shown us how through trials and tribulations we can come to learn unconditional love, and it can help us learn to forgive, not only ourselves, but others as well, bringing us joy, peace of mind, and helping us find our own true self-worth.”

“This is an awesome novel. I laughed, I cried and cried some more. I couldn't put this book down. Mrs. Adams did a wonderful job of detailing true and unconditional love!”

“All I have to say is that this book was a great read. It made me cry, it made me think, and made me love romance. Please buy this book. You would not regret it.”

“This a wonderful book. I thought it would be your average quick story, but it is actually a beautiful story of belief in self, God, transitions, love, jealousy, and forgiveness. It will make you laugh and cry and be thankful for the blessings you take for granted. This is a story of a full lifetime of commitment and it was very refreshing. This is a great value as well. It is very true to what we live thru in this real game called life. I hope you will take time to explore a really unique and different approach to an interracial relationship.”

"I have laughed, cried....lots of crying, rejoiced and actually prayed for the characters of this book in times of great joy and profound sorrow. Thank you so much for sharing the beautiful gift of this book with us. Your storytelling was so masterful I couldn't hold back my tears in front of friends and co-workers. I haven't had a book arouse the thoughts and feelings I felt reading your book. God bless you sister you are a true talent."

The Legacy, 2011 by Jewel Adams

FROM BACK OF BOOK

North Carolina native, Cisely Matthews has seen and suffered much in her twenty-two years of life, and she has the scars to prove it. When amazing blessings come to her, she wonders if she will ever feel worthy enough to deserve them.

Australian-born Ingo Kelly is thrown for an emotional loop when he visits his aunt in Utah and meets Cisely for the first time. He falls for her hard and fast. But getting her to accept his love is a challenge he is more than willing to take on.

Adagio St. John is Ingo's best friend and the two are as close as brothers. When Adagio travels to Utah from his home in Italy to attend Ingo and Cicely's wedding, he is overjoyed that his friend has found happiness with such an amazing woman. He hopes he can find the same happiness one day and end the loneliness he struggles with on a daily basis. There are prospects aplenty, but none of the shallow beauties can capture his heart.

When love does finally come to Adagio, will he allow himself to embrace it or continue to go it alone?

We are told that trials help to make us stronger, that we have to go through pain to really savor the experience of joy. I have known this for a long time, but I now know something else. The strength that comes from those trials is actually faith refined; the joy that comes after the pain, celestial favor.
Cisely St. John's journal

Beautiful Cisely Matthews' life has been a life full of tragedy from the day she was born. She is raised by an alcoholic mother and an abusive father. She has feelings of loneliness and doubts her self-worth and this is only reinforced everyday of her life until age 12 by a father who daily physically and mentally abuses her.

2.0 out of 5 stars I really tried to like this plodding thing, but... July 30, 2011
By JJB
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I do not know what effect the writer was trying to engender by writing this book in the present tense - but it doesn't work.
A plodding mess of bad grammar. It reads like a a paper one would produce for a literature class back in high school.

3.0 out of 5 stars Unnecessarily Long July 30, 2011
By Dee1837
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Tells the story of the life of a young woman who comes from a messed-up family background, leaves it, moves half way across the country, and meets and is befriended by an older woman who introduces her to her extremely wealthy nephew. Cisely falls in love with him (Ingo), they marry and are happy. His best friend is an Italian restauranteur and he is like a brother. The story takes a twist when Ingo goes on a trip with friends at Cicesly urging during her difficult pregnancy. I won't spoil it for you, but you will either love or hate this story, because the author does take along time to explain the lives of her characters. To me, overly so. But I got through it. It was an okay read for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful story of forgiveness and love June 29, 2011
Format:Paperback
This is the most captivating read I have had for a good while. I couldn't put it down. The Legacy is a tale about a young woman of color battling her demons on a daily basis. She is quite beautiful, yet has a hard time seeing it. She has been scarred for life by the abuse of her alcoholic mother and her abusive father. Growing up in a home where she was told of her worthlessness, she finds it very hard to believe she has any value. Now in her early twenties, she struggles to erase the life she has tried to escape for less than two years. Drugs, immorality and drinking were her reality until she helped another abused girl and vowed to change her own life. That part has been the easiest for her. The hard part is believing she is worth anything more now than the nothing she was. With such a heavy shadow on her shoulders, she tries to take life one day at the time. That is until a young man comes into her life and stirs up anew all her guilt.
It is so hard to accept oneself when our entire life we have been told we aren't worth anything. This is a beautiful book that teaches us that we can all change and forgive ourselves for the things we have done in the past and forgive those who have wronged us. No one is perfect and we all need to forget and move on. Great writing.
