I will start by saying that I did get the two following books in this series - and I have enjoyed reading all of them. This isn't so much of a fantasy story (although the genre does play largely in the books) as it is a coming-of-age story. I enjoyed reading about Jahrra, Jaax, Hroombra, Gieaun and Scede. Very few books actually affect my emotions while reading, and I fell right into Jahrra's ups and downs - sometimes a bit of a rollercoaster. I do recommend the books - they are fun.

That being said, and remember I have all three books in the series, I do have a word of caution. Many readers (like me) run through ebooks at a pace that can be faster than authors write. It is hard enough to wait for a book that is in production...counting down days, weeks, months, etc., for the next in the series to be written. The third book in this series was published in August 2011. There is no indication that the fourth book has ever been started - just a FB blurb from early 2012 when the author said she may have to go back to that series soon. After that there are no Oescienne updates. If you truly need closure (whether happy or not), this may not be the series for you. I definitely enjoyed the read, but I definitely have a hole in my heart over the series abrupt cliff hanger - especially after such a gut-wrenching set of chapters...

First and foremost this book is targeted to the younger readers ages 10-12. While the book is simple and an easy read it is also quite entertaining.

I found myself wanting to learn more about the world of Oescienne and since I live in the Central Coast in California I found the book 'homey" in a way.

The author did a great job building the main character "Jarhha" into someone tangible, very realistic.

I did the find the book slow to start, I wanted more action excitement, I guess that's just me.

All in all a great start to the series. I expect more excitement as the series progresses.

Lately I have found myself going through a YA/Fantasy phase (ok, not lately, it's an ongoing thing for as long as I can remember), so when I stumbled on this book, despite the odd cover picture, I decided to give it and the other books in the series a try. I must say I am very pleased that I did.

I will not give any spoiler alerts or go into depth on what this book and the series is about, but I will urge any fans of YA fantasy fiction to add this to your reading list. I enjoyed it so much that I found the author herself on goodreads.com, followed her, and have had a few conversations with her about the books. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series.

The Finding is the first book in what I hope will be a long series!

I really enjoyed reading it, and I hope everyone that love fantasy will give this book a shot! I recommend it a lot!

The story about Jahrra and her friends will have you eagerly waiting for more! The author has her own webpage [...] where she have lots of information about the world she has created! She even draws her own images, and it really puts color to The World of Ethöes!

Do yourself a favor, crawl up with a cup of hot chocolate and this wonderful book!

Dragons and elves, good and evil, school and friends, growth and learning are all addressed in this first book of what looks to be a great YA Fantasy saga.

The characters are well developed. There is a lot of mental "inside the head" thinking... which is typical between children and adults as children learn to hide their thoughts so as not to displease adults. There are bullies. Lessons on patience.

The heroine is a Human baby girl when we first meet her ... rare on the world. Someone evil changed all the humans into dragons. There is a prophecy that when a human baby is found again, the evil might be broken.
The never-ending conflict of good against bad is just starting to heat up.

The book is free-standing, while allowing the reader to look forward to reading the next book in the series.

I recommend this book for YA who enjoy fantasy and science fiction.

My granddaughter ( 12 years old) read The Finding to me, something she and I do as we enjoy reading to each other. We both found this book fun, fascinating and exciting. A true fantasy filled with wonder. Though I recommend this book for young readers ages 10 to 14, it is a story that can be enjoyed by all ages. The dragons and mystical world are in good competition with Lord of the Rings and like stories. A wonderful read, indeed!

The Finding is a fun read, a romp back through childhood and all the trials and tribulations that shape us as we grow, only Jahrra's childhood is the one I wish I had. Imagine growing up with a dragon as a mentor, half-elves as best friends and a mysterious and mystical forest as your backyard. Jahrra is the only human remaining in a world on the brink of violent change. Her birth is foretold by a prophecy, but Jahrra knows nothing of this, she is simply another child trying to make it through school and eagerly anticipating summer vacation.

The Finding describes Jahrra's early years surrounded by an evocative and lush backdrop in an interesting new world where humans are extinct and dragons make good neighbors. Jahrra is an intriguing main character, her personality grows naturally through the book and the reader delights in her charm and spirit. Though her situation is unique in this fantasy world, her problems are very much the same as those a typical child might face in a modern setting. The Finding provides a wonderful story for children and young adults to relate to yet it is also a deeply engaging story, rich with intrigue and the undertones of a more adult conflict to come in future books. As an adult reader, I found the story of Jahrra's youth alternately entertaining and heartwrenching. I look forward to future books about the world of Oescienne and cannot wait until the next phase of Jahrra's story.
