This movie is excellent for small children as there are no blood and guts, just a spooky tale with lots of fun for the family.

Like many people I grew up on this version of the classic story, and like many people, every year at Halloween I dig out the old and fairly worn out recording I made years ago. It's staticy and jumpy and full of commercials, but I still watch it every year without fail. Why? Because despite the fact that this is a low budget production,it works and works wonderfully. It's funny, spooky, and just all around enjoyable. Goldblum's lanky, idiosyncratic Crane is perfect, and despite the fact the cast is made up of not-exactly-A-list actors (not to mention one football player) They all fit their parts, and manage to work up enough chemisty to overcome every weakness to be found. Now maybe you have to grow up on this like I did, but I think a lot of people will enjoy this version, especially kids. Now will someone PLEASE put it out on DVD before my copy finally dies?!?!

I have not seen this particular version for many years, it's not even shown on TV around Halloween. But I often think about the time, long ago, when I chanced upon it on TV. I thought Jeff Goldblum was perfectly cast and the live action made viewing much more enjoyable for an adult, than say, a cartoon. I wished I had video-taped it, because it has been impossible to obtain a VHS/DVD copy. It's perfect TV viewing for a windy autumn night, not too scary for smaller ones to watch, but enough of a hoot for the whole family. I hope "they" will make it available to the general public sometime soon.

I purchased this video last year and the VHS sound quality is awful and the picture quality was not much better. I really like the story with Jeff Goldblum and hope they release a DVD version before Halloween.

My sisters and I have made an annual event of watching this version of the classic in the fall around Halloween, and we've added my niece to our group. This version is a hoot. We've memorized some of the funnier lines and recite them back as we're watching, laughing every time. Jeff Goldblum is great. Dick Butkus is fun. I only wish it was available on DVD.

This is my favorite Halloween movie--even though the picture and sound quality are horrible I look forward to watching it every year! It needs to be released on DVD!!! It's great seeing jeff goldblum as icabod crane and dick butkis as bron bones. The story is entertaining, filled with laughs and some scary moments but overall light hearted and fun for the whole family to watch around fall time. I usually have a ritual of watching it with my sisters every year; Unfortunately I don't have a VHS player anymore and have no way of watching this particular movie. How are there still VHS movies floating around that haven't been converted to DVD?

im only 17, and im surprised at how little the comments on this film are, i love it!!luckily, my mom, back in the 80's before i was born, happen to record this because she loves this story, and this version as well. i litterly grew up with this movie, and i loved it. meg foster is a beautiful katrina van tassel, her eyes are so piercing, lol, and jeff goldblum, in a VERY early performance, is the best ichabod, cuz hes funny and silly and skinny just like ichabod should be. that old man fritz is funny, yeah the principal on welcome back kotter, and i remember watching that tv show and being like "oh look, its that guy from sleepy hollow", lol. my mom was the one who told me that tim butkis (but-kis, real football name, lol) was a football player. this is just a great family film, and its great to watch around halloween time. that palmer character is FUNny, and hes just creepy and crazy, like an old pirate. the roamnce between ichabod and katrina is very sweet and innocent, and there should be more movies with that kind of romance nowadays. the part that always cracks me up is when that fred duthcer guy tries to pull on the bell and that palmer guy is on top of the roof and messes around with him and makes him rise and drop on brom, lol. the part when i was smaller that always creeped me out, but now just makes me laugh a bit, was when ichabod sees the shadow on the wall and that groaning happens, its quite creepy, but funny too, lol. and FINNALLY, the actual real headless horseman we keep hearing about but dont see until the end basically. its good...though compared to tim burtons sleepy hollow is not really that scary, but more like a fun scary, like you no its the headless horseman and your all hyped to see him, even though its a bit fake, its still exciting and fun, knowing its actaully him.Read more ›

This is such a fun movie. Jeff Goldblum is perfect, and the other actors work together so well. The VHS is choppy and jumpy, though. I hope they release a DVD of it soon. Who makes those decisions?

Loved this version the first time I saw it. The vhs quality is sadly lacking for such a great film. Please send word , this classic version really deserves to be seen on dvd!
