Product Description
Little readers can follow along with text highlighting

"One day in the pumpkin patch the strangest little pumpkin hatched. Spookley wasn't like his friends—where they had curves, he had ends."

So begins The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin. This delightful and inspiring book for your Android device combines the original text of author Joe Troiano and artwork of Susan Banta with features that entertain and promote reading.

Enjoy realistic page turning, colorful graphics, professional audio, and more
Square in a Round World

Spookley the square pumpkin was different. In a world where "the only good pumpkins are round pumpkins," Spookley is shunned. Until one day during a terrible storm he gets the chance to make a difference. In The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin, a unique pumpkin delivers a special message of tolerance and self-acceptance that's just right for Halloween or any day of the year.

Find out how Spookley's difference makes a difference
Enjoy Interactive Reading Fun

This Oceanhouse Media omBook features professional narration, background sounds, and enlarged artwork for each scene. Children can choose the Read to Me option if they would like the audio narration but want to go at their own pace (turning the pages themselves); beginning readers can opt for the Read it Myself mode. Auto Play reads the entire story without any prompting or page-turning, which is especially useful for very young children.

Support for Little Readers

To help kids learn to read in a fun way, individual words are highlighted as the story progresses and words zoom up when pictures are touched. Kids can slide a finger from right to left on the screen, and the "page" actually turns just like a real book. The overall effect is to make a classic story come alive, providing hours of entertainment for all ages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful interactive e-story, perfect for Halloween! October 23, 2011

My first grader came home last week raving about a book her teacher had read to them in class. It was titled "Spookley the Square Pumpkin". She loved it so much that she insisted we go to our local library and check it out so she could read it to me. Unfortunately, the local library did not have the title as it has been out of print for a while. I could not find it online at a reasonable price (for a used copy), and was just about ready to give up my search when I came across OM offering it as an interactive e-book (through the Amazon Android Appstore). For slightly less than a dollar, I gave it a try and it has been the best 0.99 I've ever spent!

My first grader was very excited when I showed her Spookley's picture on my phone and she quickly proceeded to read it to me. There are three options - Autoplay, Read It Myself, and Read to Me. In the Read it Myself option, the pages can be turned by swiping across the page to the left. The text appeared and my daughter started reading...but her excitement was even more so when she discovered that this is an interactive reading experience!

Each time she touched the colorful illustrations on the screen, they 'talked' back! Animals make sounds, the waves on the sea crash, thunder booms, the farmer speaks, and the pumpkins all have something to say! She would read and then touch all the illustrations to see what they had to say, and the entire experience was so much fun that she has been asking me to allow her to read this story again and again, and asking are there others? The story of Spookley the Square Pumpkin is a heartwarming one with a positive message that it is OK to be different, and that everyone harbors a talent for something. It is also a celebration of fall and Halloween!

4.0 out of 5 stars Neat little application October 31, 2011
This is a neat little application. I can't wait to share this with my daughter. A note to the inconsiderate one-star reviewers...grow up! Do you NOT have anything better to do than to criticize EVERY a job?!

Cute story for kids. Not something for myself to read but I'm sure some parents will like having this for their kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read people! October 31, 2011
By Amber
Obviously people who don't take the time to read the description of this app doesn't realize it's an ebook instead of a game. Maybe you should read before you assume. Either way, this is a cute book for children. 5*

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good book for kids October 31, 2011
This is a good story on not judging based on looks (and it rhymes : I like that it has the options of autoplay, read by myself, or read to me (where you have to tap the pg to turn it
To the people who gave it 1 star b/c its a kids book and u don't think kids use smartphones- WAKE UP! Most little kids can use a smartphone. My 5 ur old had been using mine for over a yr. she knows which screen her games and books are on, she knows how to call her daddy or grandparents, and she knows how to play music. If u teach ur kids not to use it with sticky fishers than it is not an issue. Plus these phones are not that fragile. Get a life and quit giving bad review to APPS that u wouldn't enjoy anyway. It's a FAOTD, that means that it is for everyone not just trolls.

I think this is a fine book. My only suggestions for improvement would be to ditch the creepy voice and speed it up a little

5.0 out of 5 stars Samsung Epic Touch - works great! October 31, 2011
Using technology in a fun way for spending time with the kids. Thx to development and amazon.

Ignore the one star haters. I don't believe the developers rate their apps. it would be pretty cheap advertising to buy it at full price since much of that money comes right back to them.. why do the haters think that the developer are as cheap as them to only rate it when it is free.?

This app was good, but not great. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, but I also wouldn't tell people not to get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great app, but a bit expensive
The story is fun for young kids. Older kids probably wouldn't be as interested. It's a cute story about being proud of who you are instead of trying to be something you're not. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great App
My son loves all the apps that we've downloaded from Oceanhouse Media. I usually wait for the sales to get more, but even at full price it's definitely worth it.

Interesting to note
You are quite right.

I only saw one person ding it to one star for the app not installing, which is a valid issue to review. The rest of the one star reviews, however, just aren't valid reviews of the application.
