Let me start by saying that I am a guy who enjoys action, adventure and good horror movies, however every once in a while I would come across a rare movie that has the ability to comfort you in a way that reminds you that you have forgotten you could feel this way. The Letter writer is one such film. The movie is simple, honest and not too complicated as a lullaby should be. The core of the story is we attract what we send out in to the world, cheat and lie and you will be surrounded by charlatans and thieves, genuinely love and care and your will be engulfed by serenity and peace. The signature message of kindness and compassion resonates through the entire film. You will be challenged not to cry at several moments during this film. The movie can be enjoyed by all members of the family from 8 to 80. No vulgarity, no violence, etc.

Highly recommend for very feel good movie.

When the movie starts it begins to have all of the appearance of a teen-age angst movie and is somewhat hard to tolerate but give it some time, it develops into an effective and powerful movie. This is the story of a young girl from a broken home who is trying to pick up the pieces of her life after her parents' divorce.

For awhile nothing seems to be working for her until a mysterious letter arrives in the mail one day and provokes her curiosity as to who wrote it and why it was written. The latter part of the movie is a voyage of discovery for her as she discovers not only the sender of the letter but the remarkable young girl that has been hidden beneath the surface or her life.

The final message of the movie is a message of hope and promise in the face of difficulties that try to overwhelm life. This is a worthwhile movie with a positive message and I recommend it for the family.

Many years ago I used to write note cards and for what ever reason stopped. This movie not only reminded me of the lives my notes touched but also reminded me of smiles brought by those who received those notes. This movie brought lives together that needed healing, love, and compassion. What a wonderful movie, filled with God's Agape love. We are vessels used by God and this movie showed not only the vessels being used but the transformation it brought. I highly recommended it to all ages.

The lesson is taught here that when we forget about ourselves and do something for someone else, even when we feel like we've lost everything, we always come out better than we were before and THAT is what is really important.

Seeing the awards The Letter Writer garnered caught my attention. This film confirms the difference written words can make and how they can possibly open the door to further relationship...like when a parent doesn't get through for one reason or another, others can. In this case a teenager and octogenerian connect, affect and enrich each other's lives creating positive change in other relationships.

Though there were major differences in generational lifestyles between the teenage girl and the senior, his encouraging letter bridges the gap enough to have her want to find the writer. Yes, this film is good for anyone yet a couple comments reveal he is a Christian. Isn't his willingness to step outside of his normal life to attend her singing performance an important aspect? This demonstrates all the more that love is more than words, it's action, not a noun but a verb.

After watching this film I realized I was a letter writer and one can possibly make a difference whether or not there is response. In this age of texting and e-mail, there is still a place for a snail mail note. The vibrancy of youth and the vitality of a loving heart came together beautifully in this film and may inspire you to think of whom you can affect by your words and deeds. An exceptionally touching film.

I bought "The Letter Writer" DVD after initially streaming it on Netflix last week. The disc has bonus material, one being the film with commentary from the director and the two lead actors, and is well worth the price of owning the DVD. What is amazing to me is the way this film came together after only 17 days of shooting. For me, this is a 'Kind Of Blue' artistic catch in this medium - a minimalist work, compared to Hollywood film production, that can be appreciated more deeply on many levels with each subsequent viewing. A 15-person crew of really talented professionals put this together in an amazing way along with the remarkable actors and great music score. Maggy creates her own "Ein Heldenleben" - A Hero's Tale - by taking the high road through tremendous tests in her young, tumultuous life.

This elegant film by writer-director Christian Vuissa conveys a fundamental principle of spiritual enlightenment that transcends theological dogma. If you are seeking a purpose driven life, you will find value in this piece.

The teenage protagonist negotiates the rough waters of female adolescence with the unorthodox guidance of an aging mentor. She realizes ethical and moral truths by observing his consistent practices of selfless giving. Embracing these tenants in her daily life opens the door to her personal fulfillment.

This is more of a coming to enlightenment than a coming of age film. The presentation is generally nonsectarian, and should be appropriate for viewers of any religious persuasion, and particularly those of no religious persuasion.
