I've been familiar w/ the Isle of Lewis Chessmen for over 17 years & I've never found a book that has photos of EVERY piece of the find, dimensions & such great written details. I've looked at many books over the years about this cache of chessmen & this is the 1st book that is readily available for purchase & not part of a private library collection that has a photo of every piece.

There are several versions of replica chessmen available, but they all seem to use only some very common pieces & the same ones from the few manufacturers. RickofRicks on eBay (his website ancienctchess.com) has the broadest replication of pieces I've been able to find; he also has some great information about the process of how different companies have replicated pieces & ideas on why so many pieces have not been done.

Flipped thru the pages to make sure it was new and not damaged yet, perfect condition. Looks like it has good pictures of the chessmen along with a bit of history about them. I tried reading it and found it too dull, but it was on my sister's wishlist, and I'm sure she'll love it come xmas.

This book relates the interesting story of the discovery of the Lewis Chessmen. These are not only beautiful pieces but are cloaked in mysteries of the past.
