Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Liberators (Unity Worlds) (Kindle Edition)
Before going on deployment to Iraq I bought a kindle and loaded it with as many books as I could, and this story was "recomended" to me by amazon with half a dozen other purchases, though im a fast reader and read it in about a half hour, it was worth it. Essentially its a short story about a counter offensive against an hostile alien empire by Human soldiers wearing powered armor (akin to the original Starship Troopers novel or Armor) There is only one real rule, never take off your helmet becauase of the hostile atmosphere (even if the planet is supposedly a conquered Terran colony)
**SPOILER ALERT** Well of course at one point someone accidently takes off his helmet, and sees that his foes are not as he thought, then is accused of being a traitor, sedition and insubordination, which in a time of "intersteller" war is punishable by death. As a two tour veteran of Iraq, i must say I dont see peoples allusions to the war when compared to this story, I think its a creative use of technology and shows that in reality, soldiers are moral, free thinking intelligent indivivudals, and that technology, not people, is the only thing with the potential to corrupt. **SPOILER ENDS** my only complaint is the stroy was so short, but it seems to set itself up for a sequal, which I hope the Author Mr. Carter does. |
