Book Description

One part biography, one part prayer book, The Life and Prayers of Saint Joan of Arc is an essential book for any Christian.

Though Joan described herself as “a poor girl who knew neither how to ride nor lead in war,” she did know how to obey God. That simple skill changed the course of both her life and that of the entire nation.

Twenty-five years after her execution, Saint Joan was pronounced innocent, and declared a martyr. Joan stood up for her belief and against all odds fought for her people.

She was a true hero, and remains an inspiration to this day.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent biography of Saint Joan of Arc February 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This little book is an excellent source to learn about the life and deeds of this very singular Saint. I loved the linked table of contents that allows the reader to easily navigate through the whole book. It is easy to read and conveys the substantial facts about Saint Joan of Arc. It is amazing to read about the life of this tiny, unassuming teenager who was able to lead the French Army to victory against England. It is offensive to the modern mind to learn how unjustly was she condemned to death just for dressing as a male soldier. I highly recommend Wyatt North books to anyone interested in learning about our Church Saints and also getting inspired by their faith and heroism.

5.0 out of 5 stars First a Hero then Condemned as a Heretic January 28, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I never realized how young Saint Joan of Arc was --- I always thought she was about 24 years old when actually she was only 16 when she lead France in battle defeating England. She began having visions of Saint Michael the Archangel when she was about 13-- he began telling her what she was going to have to do to be obedient to God's will. This is her amazing story of courage and fortitude of first being hailed as a hero then condemned as a heretic. Can you imagine a girl of 16 going to tell leaders that she was to command their troops in battle? The Life and Prayers of Saint Joan of Arc shows us that she always had the desire to serve God first even when it would be easier not to.

The books also has prayers and devotions for contemplation. All the books in the saints series by Wyatt North are wonderful but I would also recommend The Life and Prayers of Saint Michael the Archangel and The Life and Prayers of Saint Teresa of Avila

5.0 out of 5 stars THE LIFE AND PRAYERS OF SAINT JOAN OF ARC January 27, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
THE LIFE AND PRAYERS OF SAINT JOAN OF ARC BY WYATT NORTH is a definite must read for everyone. Her obedience to God is the heart of the book. At the young age of sixteen, St. Joan of Arc stood up for her faith and against all odds; she led the troops in numerous battles for the people of France. She brought victory to her country. She was a true, brave young woman. Saint Joan of Arc is encouragement to one and all.

Saint Joan of Arc is beyond doubt a saint and martyr.

The prayers at the end of the book are an added extra bonus.

Great job Wyatt North on the LIFE AND PRAYERS OF SAINT JOAN OF ARC! Keep up the good books!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars "LET GOD BE SERVED FIRST" St. Joan of Arc February 3, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
For some time now I have been enjoying and learning from the books I have downloaded through Amazon published by Wyatt North. These excellent, consise writings are full of interesting details of the lives of Saints and prayers associated with them. In addition, much of what I read I have been able to apply in my own life.

The newest book, THE LIFE AND PRAYERS OF SAINT JOAN OF ARC, is no exception to this pattern. Beginning to read, I was struck with the details of her early life and of her dedication to her Lord. In addition I marveled at her determination as a teenager to go forward with the plan she was given by God, no matter what. Joan ". . .saw herself not as fighting the English, but as fighting evil. . . .There was a real sense during that time that any enemy of one's country was also an enemy of God." Several parallels here to current thoughts!

Potentially wounded by an arrow to the neck in an early battle, Joan, not seriously wounded returned and "led her army to victory." Later, even the Duke of Orleans ". . . came to believe that "Joan's successes 'were rather God's work than man's.'"

Throughout Joan's short life we see her faith in God lead her, and her determination of the Lord's Presence in the Eucharist and answer to prayer were real to her.

At her trial when Joan was asked if she was in a state of grace she gave the perfect answer which would not condemn her, "If I am not, may God put me there. If I am, may he keep me there."

Tricked once more into wearing men's clothes as she had in battle--which was against Church law at that time--Joan was condemned and killed, however, her faith continues to be an example for all.

Much thanks to the publisher for another excellent addition to this growing collection of wonderful examinations of the past, bringing these jewels into the present and guiding us into the future.

The Life and Prayers of Saint Joan of Arc

What a wonderful book! I have nearly all of Wyatt North's books now and hope to have them all soon. I am a Sister and they help so much with my meditation and contemplation time. Reading them gives me a good, grounded historical and spiritual sense of the Saint, plus the prayers help me in my OWN prayer life. Reading about the Saints, especially ones like Joan of Arc who went through so much and suffered so greatly for the faith, are an inspiration. As I said, I have read most of Mr. North's books and this one was just as wonderful and helpful in my life as the others. I highly recommend this book to everyone, whether Catholic or not. Even if you are not Catholic, the books are very informative and give a great historical aspect. If you are home schooling, these books are terrific for book reports, and then be used to develop good habits in regular prayer and what prayer can do! Highly, highly recommend!
