Editorial Reviews

From the Author

"The Life We Dream" is based on personal experience. Much of Jack Bailey's memories and dreams have either been a part of my life or a part of my psyche. As a writer best known for works published in the horror/thriller genre, it is with some trepidation that I offer you this deeply personal story of love and life.

About the Author

J.H. Glaze is the author of the popular "The Paranormal Adventures of John Hazard" series, "The Horror Challenge" series, and many other novellas and short stories. "The Life We Dream" is a definite departure from the thriller/horror genre, and reveals the softer side of this wise-cracking storyteller.

I received this from the author, and may I say...WOW.

This is different from what Mr. Glaze normally writes. But that does not make it any less intense.
Jack receives a call from an old school mate, and its not a good news type of call. Sarah, a girl whom Jack has grown to truly love since he was six years old, is in hospice care. Jack knows what he has to do. He packs a bag, grabs an old shoe box, and heads out to see her.

When he reaches his destination, he tells her of all the stories of how he imagined their life together. Even though they were never actually together. His stories of his love for her seem to heal her. She is stronger, and loves him just as much as he loves her.

But is that really how it happens? I don't want to put any spoilers into my review, but believe me, its a tear jerker, and an amazing story of love ever after. I'm absolutely WOWED by JH Glaze and his ability to grab you with a story and not let go!

I won this book in a contest giveaway and I'm so glad I did. The story was very well written and flowed along nicely. I'm calling this the most happiest tragic love story that I've ever read. I didn't know what to call my tears....happy or sad. Turns out they were both. To think that such a love can exist and it does in our own special ways. The only part I did not understand was the "shadow" person. I haven't quite figured out what it had to do with the story. In any case, I'd love to read the "after" story.

I love horror and is thus a great fan of JH Glaze's books.
So when I heard he is venturing into romance I giggled and made a few assumptions.
I was wrong.
I dont like romance but I decided that this is one romance that I might be able to tolerate.
I was correct.
What I did not plan on, did not foresee was the tenderness explored in the book.
Every idea I have ever held true of men and the way they approach love has been turned on it's head in this book.
The ending was especially emotional and I dont know how I felt about it, I do know however that I understand.
Brilliant book, a must read for all.
WaAr.

This is one of the most original stories I have ever read. The turn of events was not only surprising but genius. I was sad and uplifted at the same time. I am glad i read this story. Whenever I see a review that says 'not worth the purchase' when all the other reviews are positive, I am compelled to buy the book. Reviewers should let readers make up their own minds. Had I taken that review seriously, I would have missed out on a very good story.

I read this story in less than an hour. I could not read it fast enough.

I became an immediate JH fan after I read the Spirit Box. While this is a different type of story..the elements of his storytelling are equal if not better than the Spirit Box.

JH is a storyteller. No matter what genre..whether it be "Dark Fiction" to "Paranormal Romance". He just pulls you into the story right away. He develops characters that you relate to immediately.

I don't want to give too much away in my review. This story will make you stop and really think about love and life and the journey we all go on and continue to travel on.

Do yourself a favor...download this novella. It will not disappoint you.

Somewhere in time
I came to realize
Love never goes
- John Barry, Somewhere in Time

Jack Bailey learns that Sarah is in hospice and only has a short time to live. Jack drives more than a hundred miles away to be with his childhood friend and the only woman he has ever loved before it is too late.
those who are familiar with author JH Glaze's horror novels and thrillers are in for a surprise, albeit a pleasant one, when they read this story. in The Life We Dream, he takes a different direction, writes about romance instead and pulls it off successfully.
as we accompany Jack on his long trip to the hospice, he is flooded with memories of his past with Sarah. even through the bittersweet ones, his love for her never wavers and when he finally reaches her bedside, this love brings relief to Sarah's suffering.
i thought that that was all there was to it and i was not really expecting how things turned out afterwards especially in the end. i think it was a fitting conclusion and it made my reading memorable and worth the while.
overall, this was a beautiful, heartfelt story filled with flawed characters falling in love and chasing their dreams. it was simply told yet it lingered in my mind long after i read the last word.

I was given this book in return for an honest review. I am a fan of this author and his horror novels. This book is a new area for him, having said that, it's a good area for him. This novel proves that a good author can write anything they want to. Jack hasn't seen the girl he's loved his whole life in years. Then the phone rings, she is dying in hospice. Of course, Jack drops everything, packs a bag, and heads to her side. Through his memories and stories that he shares with her, we get a look at what could and should have been. This book is touching, bittersweet and poignant. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed it. I was incredibly surprised by the fact that the author went from a kind of horror/mystery genre into romance, but I'm so glad he did. I fell in love with the characters and felt like I had a vested interest in the outcome of the story. I definitely recommend this book to one and all.
