As a business owner who depends on social media to promote my books, I don't have the time not inclination to read any of these so called get rich quick through social media schemes. This is not that!

Brian Carter walks you through methods and strategies behind using Facebook to help drive customer interest and ultimately generate revenue via everyone's favorite social meeting place on the web.

The best part of the book - for me at least - was the section on how to turn FaceLookers into FaceBuyers. Carter doesn't just tell what doesn't work - he tells you what works based on real-world experience. I'm going to be putting these suggestions and methodologies to work in my campaigns immediately. They are solid and workable techniques.

If you are looking for a book that can help you engage your potential customers where they are most comfortable and ready to hear your message - The Like Economy is a fountain of information and examples to get you where you want to be in the social media world!

I have purchased and / or read several books on how to take advantage of maximizing your investment potential or returns on Facebook, even spending a couple of hundred bucks following some of the advice I have read. After reading this book, I implemented some of the strategies in two Facebook marketing campaigns and I am pleased.

One thing that I got out of the book is its more than just doing something on FB, but what are you doing in your other activities (emails, web pages, etc.) to increase your FB presence. No matter if you think it is a good or bad thing, the reality is if you are a business you need to have a FB presence. This book isn't the end all to be all books about the topic, but there is an engaging writing style most people should be able to follow - you don't feel as if a techie is talking down to you or making it overly simplistic.

Similar to other books like this one, if you have used the FB advertising platform before, some of this will be familiar to you but you will also learn a few new tips and tricks. If you're looking for some new ideas, I'd recommend giving this one a try.

As a devout follower of Brian Carter's Fanreach Group, I have been "in school", learning the Facebook Platform for about two years - almost from the group's inception. My experience has been educational, and personally rewarding. The group has been one of the best associations I have been involved in during my professional life.

Brian's new book, "The Like Economy" is not only a review. It is also an update of all the teaching, all the experiences of group members, all the "Facebook" that one would need to truly understand the platform.

I would consider it a must read for anyone seriously considering doing business on Facebook. I'm in my second reading - even as I write this review.

Everyone knows that the best thing about Facebook is that you have a guaranteed targeted audience that you can market to. You do not need to worry about capturing the correct demographic or assessing if there is an interest for your product because if you are in an "interest based" Facebook community, you know that your customers are there. The problem is then, how do you best target these customers. Brian Carter answered these questions for me. My web based business (I have a Children's Health related web business) has had a Facebook page for years but I have been uncertain about how best to use my Facebook Fan page and other Facebook tools. The author has done a very good job of spelling out the steps to best use all of the arsenal that Facebook has for marketing.

I had hoped that this book would really provide the ins and outs of Facebook Pages including the technical details and good strategies. I found it overly broad and somewhat rambling.

Still, there are a few helpful parts.

I've worked in SEO and social media for 5 years and met my fair share of supposed experts, evangelists and gurus. The vast majority of books on social media in particular tend to be extremely vague in defining actionable steps or very repetitious in exclaiming overly-repeated gems such as "engage your audience".

Brian Carter delivers a cleverly thought-out study here that provides a comprehensive overview of how businesses can utilize Facebook to further their marketing and sales efforts. This a great resource for a new business owner, start-up or for any marketer looking to learn about how Facebook functions as a marketing tool, establishing a strategy, understanding the ad platform functions, content/message, optimization, sales and goals. This book gives you a step-step guide on how to utilize Facebook advertising, how to capture influencers/clients, increase your sales funnel and ultimately turn Facebook fans into buyers.

The author backs up his statements with solid data and statistics to help any reader in a corporate setting make the case for using Facebook. Although slanted heavily towards ads, anyone in the SEO or SMO industry will realize the importance of ads to drive the sales funnel (yes, even in social media). Even though I thought I heard everything about Facebook, there is a considerable amount of material here that was new and offers some interesting perspectives on the value of likes and shares, and how Facebook stacks up against traditional search engine marketing.
