Book Description

A provocative and eye-opening account of growing up gay and Amish in America. Poet James Schwartz combines a mixture of poetry and short stories to describe family troubles, lost love, religion, and even what it's like to take a horse and buggy to a gay nightclub. The Literary Party is an emotional, touching book with implications that extend to any religion or culture where intolerance is prevalent.

This book is amazing. The poetry is beautifully written, precise and to the point but full of vivid imagery so real you can touch it. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real and gritty.. April 7, 2013

He talks about his own experiences and those of others in the same situation. It's a shame when children are subjected to such judgemental and harsh treatment because of who they are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Literary Party May 24, 2012

The Literary Party is a collection of poems, one short story, and an essay with LGBT roots. The writer being ex-Amish and gay gives an interesting perspective, and it's what drew me in at the beginning. His writing is raw, honest, and dark at times. I couldn't put it down from the beginning, and I'm curious to see what this talent comes up with next.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read :) May 3, 2012

To know James, is to love him entirely. I have always guessed that his transition into freedom was not easy -but he brought into a very clear perspective of how difficult it really was. I enjoyed reading each of the stages of his growth -feeling his love, passion, disappointments, and heartbreaks along the way. It is an opportunity to see just how he became the fabulous diva he is ;) As well as the expansion into the brilliant poetic artist he's always been.
