I feel so bad that I put this on my Christmas Wish List and someone in my family actually spent money on this.

I feel so bad that I put this on my Christmas Wish List and someone in my family actually spent money on this. This book that got all this sort of fan fair and praise is little more than a Vogue shoot that took way too long. All it literally is, is just an oversized coffee table book with dusty looking black and whites of various upper class members of the art and fashion world all wearing the same little black jacket. I get that its supposed to emphasize that the Little Black Jacket is a timeless (and apparently genderless) staple of fashion but there's absolutely not substance to this book. There isn't any introduction by Lagerfield or someone of note from the fashion world. It just opens with some artsy half attempt at being poetic quote and then we're given a long string of celebrity and not-so-celebrities all wearing the same little black jacket.
I was under the impression that since this book is dedicated to the anniversary of Coco Chanel's creation of the famous tweed look that we'd at least get somewhat of a history lesson on the prized piece but there's nothing. The index or masthead in the back of the book credits Karl Lagerfield as the photographer but as someone who has worked in the fashion industry I can tell you as far as fashion shoots go he most likely did as little as possible. Someone else took the pictures and he probably just signed off on them before they went to print. And we're supposed to be impressed that Lagerfield knows and got all these Vogue favorites and personalities together and photographed them in this tragically pretentious compilation.

I guess I should have read the fine print. If you were hoping for a selection of little black jackets culled from the Chanel archives by KL and Carine as I was, you'll be disappointed. It's only one jacket, with slight variations and styled in many different ways on many famous people- but essentially the same jacket. Of course since only one jacket has been chosen as their canvas there are the predictable variations of deconstruction, wearing it backwards, etc...We've seen it all before. This book has more to do with Karl Lagerfeld's celebrity portraiture than the LBJ. Fine if that's what you were expecting but I was bored after several pages. It would have been much more interesting to match the personalities to the perfect little black jacket from the archives. Missed opportunity.

I just received this book and I immediately sent it back.

First, it is a very large and heavy book and it is a paperback. So it is very difficult to handle without destroying the binding, the cover and the pages.

I probably should have read more about it before ordering it, but it is simply a series of photos of people wearing the jackets and all the photos are black and white. I was honestly not interested enough to page through the entire book because of how difficult it was to handle. I thought some of the photos were striking, but there was not enough to keep me interested.

I love fashion, but I did not find this book particularly inspiring.

This book was a total waste of my money. I was looking forward to a well put together book with a collection of black Chanel jackets created throughout collections, only to end up with the very same jacket displayed page after page. Very very disappointed.

I hate to write negative reviews, but I wholeheartedly agree with the the negative reviews posted.
Luckily I didn't buy this book, as I got it as a gift and I don't plan on keeping it, its just a waste of space.

Where do I exactly start? The book is large and very heavy, yet oddly it is a paperback which could easily fall apart, and it's really hard to handle it. The size and binding make it a burden to try browsing the book's contents.

The inside is really lacking any artistic sense. All the photos are b/w, all the shots are taken against one lame grey background without any variations or nice touches to break the boring repetitive mood.

The whole book revolves around one single jacket!!! as if the house of Chanel never created various jacket designs throughout collections. Page after page there is nothing but one boring jacket worn in different styles already exhausted millions of times in different fashion shots, so basically nothing creative or even interesting is going on. Some shots looked ridiculous especially those of the male models. Most of the people chosen to model this single jacket seem random except for few celebrities, thus, making the book even less appealing.

This book has nothing to do with the house of Chanel, but has more to do with Lagerfeld's name, and the contents should have stayed in an exhibition form only. Fashion books should be colorful, creative, and showing a variety of designs and this book fails miserably on all those levels.

Beware if you plan to purchase this book, first of all it is not hardcover, all the photos are in black and white (which is ok) and the photos themselves are just ok, nothing really exciting going on, some people you may reconize, others seem random to me, I was fairly disappointed. And especially at the price for this book, I expected more. But if you are a collector of Karl LAgerfel's photograhy and of Chanel look at other titles before you invest in this one to add to you collection
