I bought this for my three grandsons and a copy for myself to read to them when they come and visit. The premise of a little leaf wanting to grow bigger like his brothers and sisters and all the ways he tries to accomplish that resonates with the desire in all of us to be better than we are now. The simple answer is refreshing and comforting. I enjoyed it so much I will be buying more copies for a local kindergarten and preschool.

Not sure "abstract" is the word I'm looking for, but the point of the book, that you have to help yourself, make your own effort, etc. was a little over the head of my 4-year-old. Maybe she was just distracted when we read it but she kept asking me what the leaf was doing (apparently she thought he did nothing throughout the entire story). Maybe a little older child for this one. The pictures are very nice.

Such a great book! Perfect for little one's beginning integration of a healthy concept of sanctification. Will also be very useful as they grow and understand their own spirituality more and more.
I highly recommend it!

My Review: A small leaf attached to a branch of an ancient and mighty tree wanted so much to be like his brothers and sisters; he just wanted to grow big. One day he decided to ask the spider why he wasn't growing, the Spider said, you just need to try harder. So he tried by stretching and expanding but nothing happened. He even drank sap from the branches and waited but still no change. Then he heard a gentle voice saying, "Have you tried leaning into the sunlight? No, the little left said to the sun.

So the little leaf leaned into the sun as far as he could go. After a few months the little leaf notices he was getting bigger. All the leaf had to do was lean and let the sun help him to grow. Like the book said, "growing up isn't easy but you don't have to do it on your own." I highly recommend this book for every household that has a little one growing up.

I bought The Little Leaf for my 6 yr.old grandson and one for myself. It is an adorable story about a little leaf who tried to figure out why he wouldn't grow like his brothers and sisters around him. When he questioned why, he was told to try harder but he finds out that wasn't the answer. It was a gentle voice that finally tells him the "truth" about how joy and happiness can't be earned, we need the help of someone much more powerful and loving. I am so happy I bought The Little Leaf and would recommend it to all ages.
