5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Musical Gift for a Toddler!
My (now) 3-year old daughter began asking for a saxophone about two or three months before her birthday, and eager to raise a real-life Lisa Simpson I immediately went to Amazon.com to search for a suitable toy; the "Deluxe Childrens Saxophone" was the first item I found, and I thought it was perfect. 3.0 out of 5 stars Its gonna break but still be playable
I have purchased 2 of these saxophones now. They both had a key break off after a while of normal use, might have even been the same key, so it's fair to say you can expect that. I also have purchased 2 of the trumpet..big suprise a key broke. The second trumpet hasnt broken yet but Im sure it will. Overall it seems fairly durable and my daughter had it for a while before...

My daughter loves the toy; it is durably contstructed, colorful, lightweight, and easy to use; it makes real music (it has an octave range of in-tune notes, you can pick out simple melodies on it) that is neither loud nor annoying. My daughter consistently enjoys playing with it--it's still in her "heavy rotation" of toys nearly a month after her birthday--and I think it is an ideal introduction to the fun and joy of making music. I hope this will motivate her someday to play a real saxophone! HIghest recommendations!!!!

I bought this for my 4 1/2 year old son so he could big just like his big bro, who has a real sax. He and I just love it! It is plastic but is very well made and worth the price. It sounds like a horn, not a sax of course, but the sound is very nice. We brought it to my older son's band concert and everybody wanted one! It doesn't seem like it would break unless it was dropped on a hard surface. Very cute...

I bought this as a gift for my friends' daughter who is 3. She likes playing music and her mother knows how to play several instruments. They expressed their surprise that this saxaphone, although a toy, actually functioned and played just liek the real thing. It's not electronic. You blow into it and are able to play chords (multiple keys). They give it a thumbs up!

My 7 yr old son has taken an interest in playing Saxophone and my wife and I wanted to give him an introduction to the instrument without investing in an entry level instrument. Even though he is a little more mature for this sort of "toy", our research showed that students cannot start the Sax until their lungs develop more. There isn't much else in the way of toy instruments like the selection you see for guitars. After reading many reviews we got this. He started playing it immediately and he has already nailed down two of the three supplied songs in less than 24 hours. I suspect before mid week we will be combing the internet for sheet music. So if you want to give your child a way to get familiar with what to expect with a Sax, this is a good way of introducing the instrument and getting something out of it while waiting for them to get old enough.

Overall it seems fairly durable and my daughter had it for a while before the key broke (long enough that I did buy a replacement). She is not hard on her toys and my husband asked me not to replace it again because they break due to poor quality. It sounds a bit kazoo-ish, but not too annoying. Each key plays a different note and doesnt sound off-key to my untrained ear (though what notes it plays I dont know). It does play the notes in reverse order (low to high as you go down the instrument) which I know is backward from a real instrument. I like the fact that you have to press atleast one key while blowing to make a sound, so my daughter cant just play it endlessly without hitting any keys. Although, since pressing the key opens the hole, now that one key is broken off she can do just that. But this also makes it easier for kids to play because they just have to open the hole rather than making a seal to play. Overall not a bad toy, expect it to lose a key with normal play, it will still be playable after it breaks. If it didnt break I would give it 5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars A beatiful and playable toy, December 27, 2008

I bought this litle toy for my 3 years old boy and since christmas day he is taking good care of it. The toy is made of plastic but the notes are joyful: no too loud no too soft and I will add just right. The toy is colorful and for this age (3 years old kids) is a fun toy. I don't know anything about it's educational value but sure it is a great toy. It is made out of plastic and the keys are colored.

We bought this as one 2nd birthday presents for our son and he LOVES IT. He plays the sax while his dad plays his other toy trumpet. He really seems to enjoy playing it, helps his little fingers learn to move up and down an instrument while playing, and most of all he is so PROUD while he plays it. I think this is great for any child!

1.0 out of 5 stars Awkward and no fun for the kids, April 22, 2011

I purchased this saxphone based on the reviews here. I considered all of the reviews and was intrigued by the thought of a polyphonic play saxophone for my 2 and 4 year old. They played with it for literally 5 minutes each. The main problem I have with this toy is it's very awkward to hold for little hands. It doesn't look like the designers even tested out this toy before releasing it. They've added a small loop on the back that seems to be for supporting the toy by the thumb. This was so the notes could be played, but it doesn't allow you to do that. Even I have trouble holding it and playing the notes. Kids can't even hold this and play the notes at the same time. It makes them frustrated and they just drop it and move on. In addition the amount of wind pressure needed to play the notes is too much for them. A waste of $12.00

This thing lasted exactly one week before it stopped functioning properly. My 5-year old daughter wanted a toy saxophone so badly and was thrilled when it finally arrived, only to be disappointed after it started making a musical sound by just blowing into, thereby playing multiple sounds when she pressed any of the keys, one of which already broke and she in no way abused this toy. Now it's just sitting in her room untouched.

This sax looks good... but after only one hour of playing it, my 2 1/2 year old grandson was reduced to tears because the mouthpiece broke off.
