Review

From the readers:

★★★★★ "I was hooked on this book from page one. Todd Travis is an amazing author. I will definitely read everything of his that becomes available."

★★★★★
"Todd Travis has a way of teasing you with each page that keeps you wanting more. He has come out with a book of short stories ...The Living and The Dead. I myself am not a big fan of short stories but LOVED this book. It really show cases his talents for writing different characters and bringing them back into other stories. Todd's style of writing lets you into the lives of the characters and see the story from their eyes. You become totally engrossed in the characters and start routing for them ... But be careful what you wish for - Todd has a way of twisting and turning every page in the book so you don't know what is coming next or who is coming next .....My favorite story in this book was the last story because it was the longest and gave such depth and background into each character. I enjoyed all the stories in this book, each one was better than the last!"

★★★★★ "I have just finished reading The Living and The Dead, Absolutely Amazing. I became so engrossed in the stories it felt like I was the characters. Very well written."

★★★★★ "Todd Travis has done it again with this excellent collection of short stories, each with a twist.I am not a fan of short stories.... normally, but these are not your normal short stories. It was a pleasure to read this well edited (ie. No sloppy typos) book and I can't wait to see what Mr Travis produces next."

From the Author

To the old man who told me, when I was but a young lad, that there were actual monsters in the world, both living and dead ... dude, you were totally right.

It has incredible twists and turns and is a book you won't want to put down. Todd has quickly become one of my top 5 favorite authors!!! The ending to Creatures of Appetite will leave you begging for the next book! I know I am ready for it! Todd thanks for sharing the darker side of your brain with all of us who love stories with twists, turns, evil, good and the unknown!! The Living And The Dead Creatures of Appetite

5.0 out of 5 stars CAPTURED!! June 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I have only read the first two short stories in Mr. Todd Travis' latest book "The Living and the Dead", and already I have been CAPTURED! First of all, I didn't think he could possibly surpass his debut novel "Creatures of Apetite," or even equal it with short stories. But he has! I've never particularly enjoyed short stories, because they tend to be less thorough in their brevity, but I am here to tell you, that in these first two stories, "Redemption Center" and "In Season," Mr. Travis has proved himself the Master of not only horror, as he did with "Creatures of Appetite," but the horror short story as well. If you only read two books this year and are a horror fan, don't miss these two books by Todd Travis!

I will write a full review when I have completed the book in its entirety, but I was so enthalled that I had to share my feelings so that others would know how fantastic this book is, right out of the chute, so to speak.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great collection of short stories by Todd Travis July 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Living and The Dead is a great collection of stories that keep you interested throughout the entire book. I first became a fan of Todd Travis after reading his novel Creatures of Appetite. That book is amazing and a must read for anyone who likes thriller/suspense novels. After finishing that book I searched for more books by Todd Travis. I am not a huge fan of short stories because it can be hard to tell a good story that doesn't leave you feeling like you are missing something when it ends. The Living and The Dead proved to me that a talented author can tell a good short story. I was reminded of Creepshow and Tales from the Darkside with some of the stories. Which is not a bad thing, I loved those. Todd Travis is a talented author and I cannot wait to read more of his work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty darned good! September 10, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I got this book on a one day only freebie, and I really liked it. It is full of really imaginative short stories - some scary, some gruesome, a few about people who have the need to play God, are bullies, or just have a disgruntled and misplaced ax to grind - all about those who deserve getting what's coming to them! I say hurray for the underdog! There appears to be one story left out (unless I somehow missed it), but I can't say what without giving away a plot [I'll just say one name: Mr. Childers] ...

A great read! I'll pay for this author's next book!

Horror fans take notice! This is one of the best collection of short horror stories I've read in quite some time. It was scary, but also had social relevance as all good horror should. Very well written. This guy has a terrific career ahead of him and I truly believe his name will be know by everyone! This book is fantastic!

5.0 out of 5 stars For Real This Time... August 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I see book descriptions all the time telling me that if I love Stephen King (I do) and/or Dean Koontz (I also do), then I'll love this book too! Not true until now. The stories were well written, some of which intertwined with others. And, there was just the right amount of creepiness combined with horror that I found myself jumping at every little noise in the house. Just my type of book! A quick read, this short story collection is great for those nights when you don't *need* to sleep!
