Book Description

What if every farfetched conspiracy theory about Barack Obama turned out to be true? Two reporters for the The Daily Caller received an unsolicited manuscript in the mail, the diary of a former Obama administration political operative. What they read stunned them. "The Lizard King" describes a White House where the reality is more surreal, and comically bizarre, than anything its most fervent enemies have alleged. Tasked by David Axelrod with debunking right wing rumors about the president, the narrator embarks on a journey that takes him from Washington to Moscow to the tribal areas of Pakistan in search of the real Barack Obama. His findings leave him shocked, his political ideology in tatters and his understanding of the world forever changed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bizarre, awesome October 9, 2012
"Lizard King" is allegedly a manuscript from an anonymous White House staffer, but it very well could be an undiscovered Vonnegut novella.

It will have you spitting out your coffee at points, and feeling really, really sorry for David Axlerod at others. Would highly recommend for a quick, hilariously weird read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tremendously creative and entertaining October 9, 2012
This is the wittiest political novel I've read in years. The depictions of Rahm Emanuel and David Alexrod alone are worth the price. The sections on Valerie Jarrett made my snarf my coffee. If this novel isn't strictly speaking true, it's got to be pretty close. This is dry comedy in the tradition of Evelyn Waugh and Christopher Buckley. Really outstanding.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is terrimazing October 9, 2012
I hate how much I love this book.

It's all at once incredibly stimulating (I had to Google half the references to follow along) and ridiculously base (any passage with Rahm Emanuel is sure to offer the widest array of F-words you've ever consumed in one sitting.) The combination of both makes it very smart and very funny.

What I love about The Lizard King is that it flirts with some of the most believable tensions between White House staffers and absolutely blows them up into their most absurd caricatures.

Nowadays, just the name "Barack Obama" elicits hyperbolic responses. But try not to affix your politics to the book's meaning. Additionally, stop thinking everything has to have a meaning.

The authors (or editors??) have created something that will endear readers from both sides of the political aisle.

If you love politics and humor, you'll adore this book.

Buy it for a friend, too. If he comes running back to tell you he can't believe a former White House staffer would reveal all this, then you'll know your friend is a moron.

Pretty good satirical whimsy. Would have liked a few more chapters and more savagery. Of course the Obama reign is self parody so I don't know how much more you could say,

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
This became very strange. I suppose I should have paid more attention to the title. It would be a book strictly for entertainment. I was looking for more of an expose.

Rather a strange book. Since the author was anonymous, (he had worked in the early days of the Obama administration), I had to wonder if these things actually took place or they... Read more

You had me at first but lost me half way in. If you want to write a tell-all, then be honest from the get-go.

The Lizard King is a funny farce. To bad it didn't prevent Obama from being re-elected. Really a waste of time reading.
