Praise for That Damned Coyote Hill, the first Hawthorne story:
You've got a mysterious gunfighter on a mission of vengeance, an isolated settlement, a trio of fairly formidable bad guys, a kidnapped little girl . . . but you've also got an even more mysterious old Indian, townspeople who don't act quite right, strange creatures that haunt the prairie . . . mix that together and you have a very entertaining yarn that's an excellent example of the Weird Western. I'm hoping that Lowrance's protagonist in this story [...] will soon make a return appearance.
-- James Reasoner
This quick-reading tale -- somewhere in length between a short story and a novellette -- grabs you from the very beginning and doesn't let go of your ass until the last word, when you put it down, shaken, trying to figure out what the hell just happened.
-- Allan Leverone
Straddling the western and horror genres, Lowrance crafts a driving revenge tale, blood spattered and dust-stained, populated by folks you wouldn't want to meet without a six-shooter at your hip and some who'd make you consider using it on yourself.
-- Eva Dolan
Lowrance gets the twisted weird western genre and delivers a tale full of thrills and shivers ... get on the Lowrance band wagon now, you'll enjoy the ride.
-- Paul Bishop
