Book Description

Four women bound by chance take the trip of a lifetime in Karen McQuestion's fifth novel The Long Way Home.

For Wisconsinites Marnie, Laverne and Rita, life isn't working out so well. Each is biding time, waiting for something better, something to transport them out of what their lives have recently become. And then there's Jazzy: bubbly, positive, and happy even though she hears voices of the departed. Brought together by a chance meeting, the women decide to join Marnie on a road trip from Wisconsin to Las Vegas where she intends to reunite with Troy, the boy she raised as her own—and who she’s been separated from since her boyfriend’s death. Little do they know that as the road trip unfolds, so will their lives—in directions they never anticipated. Humorous, heartwarming, and bittersweet, the journey has something special in store for each woman.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Road Trip You Haven't Been On Before May 1, 2012
Format:Paperback
Karen McQuestion has done it again! The Long Way Home is a truly new take on the ever so done road trip book. I am always hesitant to read a road trip plot based book, because I feel like for the most part I have read them all before, although this road trip is much needed for these ladies and there is some self discovery involved.. you will not find anything cheesy.
I loved each and every character. They each had qualities in them that were truly endearing and they also had qualities that made you groan and roll your eyes. However, they complimented each other well, there wasn't one person who you strongly disliked or who was going to cause a huge rift, that would create to awkward dramatic lull in the story. I must say though what is better than the story itself is McQuestion's talent to write realistically. Something I have always respected about her writing. There were moments when I would say out loud " oh my god, that is something I would Do!" or say, or think...

So, this why I cannot say it enough, go read The Long Way Home and all other books by Karen McQuestion.

PS
I like this book so much, it is hard for me to even properly tell you how awesome it is.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good read for the price May 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I'm not going to write some long drawn out critique of the book. I'm just going to get to the point and tell you what I thought of it. I will say that upon reading the description the story sounded a little implausible. I didn't get how the author was going to randomly throw together a mish-mosh of women on a life altering road trip. She did lay the groundwork well in the story and bring the women together in a realistic (or at least somewhat more realistic way). I did enjoy following along on there journey and all the developments throughout in each character and in their relationships. I do say that towards the end I feel like the author tried to wrap things up a little to quickly, like she didn't know what to do with the characters after their road trip but all in all a very enjoyable read, especially considering the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank You, KMcQ! May 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I LOVED THIS BOOK!

This was my first pre-ordered Kindle book. I wouldn't buy a book from any other author without reading the free preview first, but I knew KMcQ wouldn't let me down. I stayed awake all night to read this & it was well worth the sleepy daze I was in at work today. There are so many things I want to say about this book, but instead of wasting time reading reviews, you should just buy the book and enjoy it for yourself :)

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
An easy read but I felt that most of the characters were not very realistic, all very "happy ever after" stuff.

3.0 out of 5 stars an easy book to read.
I thought this was quite good, and I enjoyed it but not brilliant, worth 3 stars though I wasn't that mad about the ending.

3.0 out of 5 stars Beach read....
Light, airy and quick. I guess you could pull it apart and look at the whole talking to those who've passed...but that would be a stretch.

More About the Author

From the author: I grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of school teachers and the second of four girls. Later I married Greg McQuestion, which gave me a really cool last name and (eventually) three kids.

I've wanted to be an author since third grade when my teacher, Mrs. DiFrances, read my short story aloud to the class. It took a long time to achieve my goal, but I'm thrilled to say I currently have seven books with Amazon Publishing, two of them published in paperback by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

I love to mix things up, which is why you'll find I've written novels for adults (A SCATTERED LIFE, EASILY AMUSED, THE LONG WAY HOME), books for teens (EDGEWOOD, WANDERLUST, FAVORITE, LIFE ON HOLD), and two for kids (CELIA AND THE FAIRIES, SECRETS OF THE MAGIC RING).

Today I live in Hartland, Wisconsin, where you'll find me happily sitting in my office typing away on my laptop as I work on my next book.

How do I know if I am a Prime Member?
Well, once a year Prime members give Amazon $80. That's a pretty good clue.

Why is Amazon pushing Karen McQuestion's The Long Way Home so hard?
Karen McQuestion's book is published by Amazon Publishing. That is why she gets such customer friendly pricing (Amazon believes in low prices) and excellent promotional space on the Amazon Website.

I read the book last week as my Prime loan. I enjoyed it.
