"The Looking Book" is a wonderful book about two brothers named Kenny and Mikey whose mother decided to give them a strange surprise; it was "lookers" to help them look and see what they could see if they went outside! Now the "lookers" just looked like big funny glasses, but when Kenny and Mikey went outside and looked through them, what amazing sights they saw! From the wide, tall, green-leaved tree to the twig things and rock things and dirt things and bug -things, even a rose on a rose bush, a butterfly, and a yellow striped cat! They become so engrossed in looking that they forget to go inside until it is almost suppertime! They rush to tell their mother everything they saw plus one more observation: "You don't need the lookers - don't need them at all!" They decide there is so much to look at outside that first thing tomorrow they're going back out. Charming, whimsical illustrations help deliver the delightful message of "The Looking Book," which should appeal to children ages 4-8.

The Looking Book is a wonderful book about getting two boys outside to play. Their mother gives them a pair of looking glasses to look thru. The boys see a whole new world in their own backyard.
I used this book with my preschoolers ages 4 and 5. As I read the book to them, we also put on our lookers. The children became more and more interested in the story. After the story we began our own adventure outside and the things the children found were wonderful. The excitement continuted when I brought in some Green Worms from our local bait some. The children touched them, looked thru magifiying glasses to examine them. This is a great book with lots of wonderful excitment happening. Highly recommend this book.

I've been a fan of PK Hallinan for years and The Looking Book is one of his best. Like the best of Dr. Seuss, PK can deliver an entertaining story for children that also gets adults to think.

I give it five stars not only because it's a lot of fun to read, but because it's so timely. In this age of being bombarded with information as we run from activity to activity, it's rare we take the time to see the extraordinary in the ordinary.

How many times has a parent encouraged their child to go outside and get some fresh air. It appears that the computer and all it has to offer may at times be robbing our children of the many joys our world can bring them. Inside the pages of this outstanding book, "The Looking Book," one mom comes up with a very smart plan to get her children to discover the great outdoors. Giving them what she calls a pair of "lookers" the children are told they will help them to see things outside that they have never seen before. Imagination at it's best, don't you think?
As the children quickly run outside to see what magic these lookers have in store for them, they soon become immersed in the wonders of our world, no longer needing their 'looker.'

I have to say this is a great book from an author who knows the minds of our little ones. The first miracle was coming up with an idea to get the children to even step foot outside and than to have them begin enjoying it was icing on the cake. This is one of my granddaughters favorite books. The illustrations are simple yet portray exactly what is happening, perfect for the storyline.
Don't miss getting this book for all the children you know and love. Very good job. Highly recommended.

Go outside! Enter a special journey into the soon-to-be unknown, the outdoors. Have children discover once again that to live is good, but to think and see is phenomenal. This simple tale of re-discovery is an excellent adventure for people of all ages.
