This book picks up at the end of At The Seat Of Power and continues to provide the same rollercoaster ride of thrills and excitement. Alec's Journey continues to find ways to twist and turn while he struggles to regain his Ingenairii powers and do all he can to protect the dominion. I am anxiously awaiting the release of the next book in the series.

This novel keeps moving Alec's story right along, but takes things in a completely different direction. His life seems to be going along perfectly in some ways, but then he tries to do too much at once and the story unveils some surprising plots twists as a consequence of what Alec does. I enjoyed reading about him and his peers, a group of many other teenagers who like him are learning how to cope with change and new responsibilities. Alec really goes through some trials in Bondell, and I didn't expect the way a couple of the subplots turned - his relationship with Bethany as one example. I am eager to read the next book and see what is going to happen. A couple of probable plot twists seem to be foreshadowed, but the author has a way of making things catch the reader by surprise. I enjoyed reading this - it is still a great piece of escape reading.

The only thing wrong with this book is that it ends.

As other reviewers suggest, the action and the plot really ricochet in this one. The main character, Alec, has developed so many relationships with people who become dependent on him that a catharsis was and is inevitable. Alec is clearly headed for a major showdown and Author Jeffrey Quyle has us eagerly awaiting it. Part of me hopes that the next book will wrap up the story and reveal the resolution (how many more balls can you keep in the air, Jeff?) but part of me wants him to keep telling the story for a long time to come. As clever a writer as he is, perhaps he will find a way to do both.

I give 3.5 points - three for the repetivity that seems to be in the hero's life, four points for the story line. The series starts to improve and gets some depth. The hero still needs ths occasional hours of sword play to relax - the reader might advise to concentrate on action - but overall, it is a YA novel for the holidays. He seems to pick up a new girl every book but in the next one, she basically disappears. The hero thinks a lot of the past but doesn't seem to have the initiative to do something about his private life. The main consistency is that he suffers feeling responsible for everything. Entertaining but not outstanding.

Just like the first two in the series, this book does not disappoint! As soon as you start reading it, you're completely wrapped up in the story. I am waiting with much anticipation for the next book!
