About the Author

Lawrence Beesley (1878-1967) retired from his position as a science teacher in England when, at age thirty-four, he boarded the S.S. Titanic to go for a holiday in the States. He had been recently widowed and left at home his young son. His account of the epic disaster is widely regarded as one of the fairest and most comprehensive of its kind. Beesley was later portrayed in the classic Titanic film A NIGHT TO REMEMBER.

This is a tale told by a survivor of the S.S. Titanic. It was published just after the Titanic's sinking in 1912. Insisde are the authors true account of the disaster with six real photos of the vessels journey. The story will give you goosebumps down your spine and allow you to expierience the tragedy yourself. This book cannot begin to compare to the other stories of the Titanic. It's power comes from a first hand account that provides more information than a fact book can tell you.

I got this book for kindle so could read wherever I go . Keeping in mind that it was written shortly after Titanic Sank by a survivor of the tragedy. It is a very good read and is hard to put down. It makes me feel very much like a witness to what was happening. I will be reading it to my son who is very curious as to how things were on Titanic especially as it sank from a survivors point of veiw.

Just finished reading this book. It was very interesting and I felt it was more accurate to what really happened during the last days and hours of the accident. It was free download, but would have been worth buying.

Beesley, a schoolteacher and TITANIC 2nd class passenger, brilliantly recalls his experiences aboard the ill-fated ocean liner...and lucky for us, as his recounting of the disaster is especially well told with both accuracy and emotion. A must-have addition to your TITANIC library.

Lawrence Beesley (31 December 1877 - 14 February 1967) was a Science teacher, journalist and author who was a survivor of the sinking of the RMS Titanic. His book gives a knowledgeable and intelligent account of the events leading up to and following the loss of the Titanic from a personal point of view. His descriptions of other passengers bring to life many shipmates who did not survive. His social observations and many of his suggestions are as meaningful today as they were when he wrote them within months of the disaster.

Unfortunately, the Kindle book contains none of the images from the original text. I have uploaded a photo from Wikipedia identified as "Lawrence Beesley in the Gymnastics Room of the Titanic." It may be the photo referred to in Chapter 1.

Very interesting first hand account of the Titanic disaster. I really enjoyed reading this man's balanced view of the voyage, the people on the ship, the ship's crew and captain and the events surrounding the sinking. One of the best Titanic accounts that I have read.

Eye-opening insights into one of the worst tragedies in history. It's incredible to me how clueless the passengers were even as they loaded into lifeboats. The myth of the ship's invincibility was so strong, it took hearing the screams of people dying in the water for many to realize something had gone seriously wrong.

For as many books that have been written about the Titanic, nothing can come close to a first-hand account written months after the incident. Read this for a true historical context.

I wasn't sure what I would think of this book written so long ago. It was interesting to read an account from a survivor. The book gets a little slow at times, but was worth reading.
