Book Description

March 22, 2011
Larry Marion’s The Lost Beatles Photographs is a milestone for rock and roll collecting: the largest trove of never-before-seen rock photographs ever uncovered reveals the Fab Four on their earliest American tours during the 1960s. Selected from a cache of intimate, behind-the-scenes snapshots taken by Bob Bonis—the US tour manager for the boys from Liverpool as well as the Rolling Stones and other British Invasion bands—The Lost Beatles Photographs reveals the casual, human side of a young John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. Presented by Larry Marion, owner of New York’s Not Fade Away Gallery and curator of the acclaimed exhibit “The British Are Coming: The Beatles and The Rolling Stones 1964-66,” this one-of-a-kind book gives a priceless window into the off-stage personalities of the world’s greatest rock band.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“Striking in their intimacy.” (Rolling Stone )

From the Back Cover

An intimate, revealing look at the legendary band, documented in a series of personal, never-before-seen photographs taken during The Beatles' three U.S. tours—the largest single trove of such important unknown rock photographs ever uncovered

In the early 1960s, four working-class lads from Liverpool invaded America, igniting a cultural revolution that would transform a generation and change the world. During that time, few were closer to The Beatles than Bob Bonis, the tour manager for all three U.S. tours, 1964, 1965, and 1966. While on the road with the Fab Four, Bonis, a passionate amateur photographer with a keen eye, an innate sense of composition, and a deep love for his subjects, snapped some nine hundred photographs of the band—a remarkable collection that until now has only been known to family and close friends.

Unearthed after forty-five years, the photos that comprise The Lost Beatles Photographs form a groundbreaking portrait of the most iconic band of the twentieth century at a pivotal time in their career, conquering America. Bonis's photos offer fans unprecedented, behind-the-scenes access to The Beatles during their breakthrough moments on the world stage, from rehearsing backstage to stellar performances in concert. Here are John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr in casual moments, in rehearsal, in concert, in dressing rooms, on vacation, at press events, on the road. Funny, surprising, provocative, beautiful, these photos recall an unforgettable period in history and offer a fresh look at these legends at the beginning of their fame.

Whether you're a devoted aficionado or just discovering the Fab Four, The Lost Beatles Photographs is a remarkable addition to Beatle lore and a must-have for every fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very insightful March 22, 2011
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Though the new photos aren't phenomenal (though some really are) I find that the back stories behind them is all the more interesting. We learn about the photographer and his relations to The Beatles and even how his son felt growing up with select photos as big a part of their collection as family portraits. Included are scans of not only various tickets, but also staff badges and all other things the guys behind the band were issued. It's neat to see all this as it really does help to ground this man in his little bit of Beatle history.

There is a good mix of everything: photo, scan and story, that lend a very balanced feel to this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thumbs Up for The Lost Beatles Photographs March 30, 2011

I received The Lost Beatles Photographs, last week (pre-ordered from Amazon) and it really takes me back to their touring 'hay days'. I remember seeing a few of the pictures, in the teen magazines ('64' '65 '66) but this book is chock full of unseen photographs and wonderful memories of The Fab Four. I highly recommend this beautiful, hard cover, collector's delight.
Larry Marion did a fine job putting this book together, a real tribute to the talented photographer, Bob Bonis, and to The Beatles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get casual with the Fab Four March 30, 2011
Format:Hardcover
Not just a book of candid pix taken by a beloved employee...also a chance to see a youthful innocence that the group still had in the early years. Enjoy the intimacy and camaraderie, along with the incredible memorabilia that enhance the text. Bob took the pictures and Larry Marion does the research to write the back story. Incredible!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Beatles
They'll always be the innocent boys from Liverpool. Too bad they had to grow up and terrible that we can never see all 4 of them together again.

This book was kind of redundant - nothing that I hadn't seen before in other books. I ended up giving it to a thrift shop.
