3.0 out of 5 stars Best in small doses July 16, 2010
By Laika

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
I downloaded "The Lost Cases of Sherlock Holmes 2" from another website, where it was called "The Lost Cases of 221B Baker Street." I'm not sure why there are two titles, but looking at the list of cases, it's definitely the same game. It's almost identical to the first game in this series, but somehow it's not quite as fun.

Part of the problem is the formula, which hardly varies: a client comes to Holmes and describes the case. You then visit several locations, where you either find a list of missing objects, or spot the differences between two nearly-identical pictures. In each scene, there's an object which contains a mini-game. Then you go back to Baker Street, where you have to arrange pictures of the suspects into a grid based on their characteristics, and then you play a memory game to narrow down the suspects until you find the criminal. It's fine in small doses, but if you play three or four cases in a row, it quickly becomes monotonous.

Gameplay: the hidden objects are definitely easier to find this time around. You get a certain number of hints per case, and can earn bonus hints by finding the hidden pipe in every scene. All of the mini-games are skippable after you've tried them for a certain length of time, which is a nice way of encouraging players to at least give the puzzles a shot. The mini-games are pretty easy (at one point there's actually a jigsaw puzzle with four - count `em - four pieces) although a few might take some trial and error.

There's almost nothing to say about the plots because they really don't matter. Each mystery starts off with an interesting premise - a murder in a restaurant, a woman disappearing at a carnival - but the game's insistence on creating as many suspects as possible means that none of them are developed.

5.0 out of 5 stars True to the spirit of Sherlock Holmes March 4, 2010

This game is a whole lot of fun. You solve over a dozen cases with Sherlock and Holmes at 221 Baker Street. The graphics are beautiful, and the mysteries are intriguing, with genuinely good plots and voice overs. The length is good, too. Most of the game play is hidden object style, where you find objects in busy scenes, but there are also some interesting spot the difference scenes, and a lot of neat minigames. I couldn't stop playing all week.

4.0 out of 5 stars Second Edition Still Fun June 5, 2013
Platform for Display:PC/Mac|Verified Purchase
If you enjoy the hidden object games, this is pretty good. Admittedly, the graphics are a bit old fashioned; however, the story line is close to the first Sherlock Holmes game. There are some changes -- some good, some not so good. Things are a bit more disjointed. Instead of each case getting a bit more difficult, there are four sections with each beginning with the easy case and the last more difficult. It's like starting over. Wish it was more like the original in that regard.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm Hooked March 4, 2010

After playing the first one, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the sequel. I love this game. The graphics are great and each cases are very fun to play. Hidden object game like Sherlock is great and it just wants you to keep going until the game is finished. Legacy outdid themselves on this one. This game is highly recommended.

I purchased this game for my wife whom is NOT computer action type gaming person. She has played it to its end and says it is different as she plays it and really likes it. Funny, she used to give me crap for modern warfare gaming all night now shes doing this thing for hours. oh well, a good game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sherlock at his best March 9, 2010

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I played the first Sherlock Holmes HOG and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. You really do think and that is what I like...a game that makes me think as well as learn. When I saw a second issue I immediately added it to my Wish List to buy or have bought for me. I can't wait to get started on it. Legacy created a unique game(HOG). I hope this turns into a series issue with more LOST CASES to solve with Sherlock and Dr. Watson.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game! May 22, 2010

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I am a big time Video Game player with all the consoles etc... and this is one of the best games I've ever played as far as hidden object/puzzle games go. Couldn't recommend any game more than this one! It's just a lot of fun to play for any age and thankfully it's also on Mac. I really hope we see more sequels of these "Lost Cases of Sherlock Holmes" games in the near future. Good Stuff!
