Editorial Reviews

Is there a God? It's an eternal question that all ancient civilizations have answered. Not with just one God, but with hundreds of them. Bringing them to life on earth, they fashioned their images in wood, paint and stone. And built spectacular holy shrines to house them.

So what happened to these Gods? Do powerful faiths just vanish? Can Gods die? Are these once sacred sites the final resting places for long lost religions? And how can people who believed in so many deities for so long come to believe in just one, Christians, Jews and Muslims alike, and sweep the others to extinction?

To answer these questions, Smithsonian Channel travels back thousands of years to the rise and fall of six ancient civilizations, the Egyptians, Greeks, Celts, Romans, Mayans and Incans, to finally reveal the mysteries behind their ancient gods.

People of all devotions will be enlightened by this journey through faith and time.

I really liked 'The Lost Gods' DVD because it was a very well presented, concise portrayal of several of the Ancient World's civilizations: Ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Celts, & Inca & their religious beliefs & what happened to them.

I bought this product so my children would get a bit of a religious education. Churches are way too biased. The concept was way cool but the execution was terrible. Most cut scenes were implemented with a spinning sky or something similar. Had to stop watching it after only 1 hour. Producer/Director needs to lighten up on the uneccesary effects. I would NOT BUY this.

I know this didn't receive the greatest reviews but I knew what I wanted. The bonus was that there were 2 versions. One version was 4 tv and the other was extended.
