More About the Author

C.S. (Sean) Michael is a traveler, writer, and filmmaker. He has visited more than 30 different countries (including an early-90s teaching stint in the former Czechoslovakia) and 49 states. Over the years he has pursued a variety of unique experiences, from scooping ice cream in Yellowstone National Park, to directing films at Universal Studios, to drinking cognac in the former Soviet republic of Transdniestria. He attended law school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (learning "just enough to be dangerous") before leaving to help start one of the world's first Internet content companies. In an odd twist of fate, he was once somehow named a "Small Business Innovator of the Year." But he's much more proud of hosting a party at the Playboy Mansion, sitting behind Dave Letterman's desk, and meeting Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto. Recently, he hauled his Airstream travel trailer to Alaska and back. At the end of the day, he can often be found sipping a glass of wine, watching the sunset and plotting his next walkabout. He hopes that his books will help others in their own pursuit of happiness.

The Lost Spyder

If you enjoy a fast-moving story involving suspense, romance, interesting and likable characters, and surprising twists and turns, you will love this book! Mr. Michael immediately draws the reader in and makes it difficult to stop reading until the last page. He makes the characters both memorable and believable. But don't take my word for it...buy the book and enjoy!

This book was a surprise to me. Having read Sean Michael's excellent book on Airstream travel trailer lifestyle, 'Long Long Honeymoon - Living Large in a Small Tin Can', I was blindsided to see this book, a mystery and adventure novel! I assumed this was going to be of limited interest, only because I am one who generally views vehicles as a means of getting from here to there. I knew from his book on Airstreams, that Sean is a 'car guy' and a fan of Porsches. That was the part that made this so inviting. I wondered if and how, this guy writing in a totally different genre could do justice to such a novel. Sean very successfully lures his readers into the world of rare and exotic sports cars. You will begin to understand.

You have heard about 'page turners', yes? You start and you can't stop; you know it is late and you have to get up early, but heck, it's just a little ways to the end of the chapter. Damn! At the end of the chapter, you are left on the edge of a cliff. What is Charlie Byrd going to do now? OK, one more chapter!

The word pictures a novelist can paint are critical to being an effective storyteller. Sean not only takes the reader there, but he puts you in the car, in the room, on the road, and everywhere else you don't expect to go. You can just about smell the gas, and feel the heat and humidity.

This is a relatively fast and easy read; totally entertaining, and a great book for a weekend. Sean, if you see this, let's have some more of Charlie Byrd! Good job!

Very descriptive writing and a couple of twists. I would like to read another story by this author. Description of places were right on; some I have visited and some I will definitely visit in the future.

This book won me over right away. Without getting bogged down in Clancy-esque tech details and avoiding Elizabethan-style character and setting descriptions, the author accurately communciated both the tangible elements as well as the more metaphysical bits of being a car ethusiast. Anyone who likes history, travel, and a good mystery will like this book.

I have never been to Birmingham and I don't own a Porsche, but this is absolutely the best book I have read in a long time! I am a prodigious reader and this is the best mystery I have read in ages. I cannot wait for his next book, or for Hollywood to grab the rights to this book! What an awesome movie this would make!!

Sean Michael has penned a real page-turner! I'm a self-avowed Porsche nut, so that's what prompted my interest in this book. I'm also a sucker for a good mystery/thriller, and this story did not disappoint. Birmingham, Alabama, forms the backdrop for parts of the story, from Southside to Barber Motorsports Park. Local folks will enjoy glimpses of familiar places and characters. But by the end of the book, you'll have traversed the globe with private eye Charlie Byrd in search of a rich man who doesn't want to be found. Turns out millionaire JC Callahan is on a mission of his own - to find the "holy grail" of Porsche racing history. Callahan's estranged daughter ends up bringing them all together, with a few detours that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Once I started reading, I literally couldn't put it down until I got to the last page. Two thumbs up!

Good story line.
Author would "wander" around a topic for a page or two and finally make a point.
Enjoyed the protagonist and his approach to some of his problems.
Some actions were quite unrealistic, ie., driving as fast as possible in fear of his life, then suddenly he "would floor the gas and rapidly accelerate".
I would say it is the authors first book and he was trying to insert all the little tips he had read about.

Take one eccentric multi-millionaire, missing along with his most coveted Holy Grail of cars, add one intrepid but guarded daughter that claims to hate him yet hires a notable detective that's down on his luck and wants to be something else to find him, and you get a darn good mystery novel, which The Lost Spyder is. Too bad it seems vastly underrated, according to its sales figures. But forget the sales figures; this is a great read, and I enjoyed it immensely.
