Editorial Reviews

2011 CD EP from the British singer/songwriter. The Love EP, which follows up her 2010 album The Sea, features Corinne's unique take on five timeless love songs that show the range of her Influences and the depth of her artistry, From her funky and spunky rendition of the Prince song 'I Wanna Be Your Lover' to her inspired re-imagining of the Bob Morley classic 'Is This Love?' to her revelatory 15 minute cover of 'Que Sera Sera', the EP is a gift for fans to cherish and share with loved ones on Valentine's Day.

"The Love EP" is a 5 track EP of covers from UK songstress Corinne Bailey Rae. Opening is a bouncy electro-funk version of Prince's "I Wanna Be Your Lover", followed by the Ennio Morricone-influenced Alt Rocker "Low Red Moon" (originally by Belly) with Bailey Rae's delicate purr floating deftly above it all.

"Is This Love" is a soothing retro soul Bob Marley cover with an insistent piano riff and languid doo wop harmonies Lauryn Hill-style. "My Love" is a string-swathed acoustic cover of Paul McCartney, "and a lengthy live Blues/Gospel recording of "Que Sera Sera" nodding more to Sly & The Family Stone's version than Doris Day's, and with the soulful harmonies of John McCallum. My only complaint is that this is an EP and isn't longer. Lovely!

This is a very nice collection of covers, I think that these tunes will certainly hold me over..
Undoubtedly, every song is sung with so much soul but my favorite however is Bob Marley's cover of
IS THIS LOVE. Simply beautiful! I love this woman and I cannot wait for another full length album.

Corinne Bailey Rae's cover of "Is this Love" is worth five stars alone! I think this was a just for fun album & if you like Corinne's music you'll more than likely appreciate it as much as I did. Its a mix of different styles than you're probably used to hearing from her but if thats an issue you can listen to the songs before buying "The Love." I'm glad to add this to my collection!

corrine bailey is a ray of light. over the past decade there have been 3 incredible artists whose music has made a difference in my life: alicia keys, jill scott & corinne bailey rae. the love ep has five cuts, all covers: prince (i wanna be your lover), belly (low red moon), bob marley (is this love), paul mccartney/wings (my love) & sly (que sera sera). i love her vocal style & the changes (all slight except for belly) that are made to the material as she pays respect to the songwriters & makes the songs her own. the day this ep was released i was on amazon. when i saw it i bought it immediately. i was blessed to see her live at webster hall in nyc in may 2010. i would jump at the chance to see her again.

in a word corinne bailey rae is lovely.

Que sera que sera is amazing. A marvelous smokey bluesy interpretation of a boring song that always reminds me of Doris Day.

This is one of my favorite singers and her two remakes on this ep (of Prince and Bob Marley) are two of the best I have ever heard ... She is a gifted songbird and I have trouble defining how much I have loved her albums ... Checkout The Sea ESP. "I Would Like to call it Beauty" or her first album and Enchantment or Choux Pastry Heart. Anyways she is gifted ...

The amazing thing about her voice is the amount of raw feeling or emotion it can gather in you from a whisper ... Maybe light but sung just right!

The Sea is my favorite right now ... Check out "I'd Do It All Again" ... And even if you are a man don't tell me you don't feel like crying .... Cause it would hurt my feelings and you don't wanna see me cry!!!

Enjoy!

Corinne Baily Ray has a unique style and beautiful clear voice. It is really too bad we dont get to hear more of her. I loved her work with Herbie Hancock on "River - The Joni Letters" (which is an exceptional album that everyone should own) and her album "The Sea". I think this new set of songs on "The Love EP" are beautiful. I loved them all - my favorites on the CD are - Is This Love and My Love. However her version of Que Sera Sera is so interesting, with a gospel twist and it just works. Corinne Baily Ray does a great mix of jazz, blues, gospel and never goes into too much pop. My wish is for more songs in the future from this young talented artist!

Corinne Bailey Rae. Beautiful woman, beautiful singer. A great remix of Prince's "I Wanna be your Lover"(close to the original), Paul McCartney's "My Love"(as only she can do it), Bob Marley's "Is This Love"(wonderfully done), Belly's "Low Red Moon" (a bluesy kind of song) and a an absolutely incredible rendition of Doris Day's "Que Sera Sera"(a little blues and a lot of soul with some gospel mixed in there).
