Author Vince Ng calls "The Lure of the Big Game" a treatise on tennis, but it is more than that. It is a guide on how to be successful in life, not just sport.

Using tennis as a vehicle, Ng creates a blueprint for achieveing your goals in any field. He knows what he's talking about - Ng has won awards in art and is an accomplished musician as well as a medical student and Big 10 tennis champ.

Using well-placed quotes from authors, political leaders, and even chess players, Ng makes his book fun to read without being preachy. He explains how he came back from a 3-year slump to reach the top of his game, so the book gives you the perspective of what it's like to start from the bottom as well as the top.

The fundamentals are there too: the book covers all aspects of the tennis game and even physical fitness drills and mental techniques. But this is not a beginner's guide, so be sure you are well versed in the game before picking up the book.

As a manual, "Lure" succeeds admirably. But perhaps even more importantly, it provides insights from mind of a

high-achiever and something we can all aspire towards.

I highly recommend The Lure of the Big Game for anyone wanting to excel in any sport. Because this book is filled with wisdom about the mental aspects of winning, it is useful for anyone in a competitive endeavor whether it is a sport, the performing arts or other. The short and concise chapters are packed with great information. The book is filled with excellent analogies and interesting quotes. It is definitely the best book on tennis I have ever read.

It is amazing how much I've improved my game by applying what I learn from this book. Unlike most other tennis books which are instructional and boring, The Lure of the Big Game is fun to read. Not only does it teach you strategies on how to play better tennis, it teaches you why and how to prepare yourself mentally to win the game. I highly recommend it for tennis players of any levels and non-tennis players as well. Learn it from the pro!!!

Not being much of a tennis player, but being an avid golfer, the parallels of how to approach your opponent by being either the executioner or the ultimate warrior made a lot of sense. I particularly digested the statement of "I don't ask for the tools to win, only the tools to fight, and I can handle the rest". This has motivated me to call upon my skills at hand as my desire to succeed gains momentum throughout the match. This a great read.
