More About the Author

Chet Cunningham : Chet Cunningham, who makes his home in San Diego, California, is a prolific writer of both novels and nonfiction books. He comes from a newspaper background so is geared to producing writing every day and not "when the muse moves me." He said he doesn't believe in writer's block.

In 1950, he was drafted in the Army. After nine months in Japan Cunningham went to the front lines of the war in Korea. He participated in two battles and numerous line-crossing and prisoner patrols. Assigned to a heavy weapons company he served as an 81 mm mortar gunner, squad leader, and section leader. His service earned him the Combat Infantryman's Badge. After two years of service he was discharged in the rank of sergeant.

Cunningham was born in Nebraska, grew up in Oregon, worked in Michigan, and went to college in New York City. Now he lives in California. He works in an expanded den in his home and says he never gets to work late due to fog, rain or traffic jams. "Walk down the hall, turn left and I'm at work."

He graduated from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon with a BA in journalism, and after his hitch in the Army he received his MS degree from the Columbia University Graduated School in Journalism in New York City in 1954.

Remarkably this book has only one chapter on macular degeneration. Other eye diseases are discussed in chapters that follow. Useful descriptions of macular degeneration research or ways to achieve living independence are lacking. Heavy emphasis is placed upon nutrition therapy. I found other books to be of more value in understanding the role of nutrition strategies in preserving sight and practical ways to follow them in daily living. This book alone will not fulfill most needs.

My eye doctor told me I suffered from macular degeneration and I would gradually lose a good deal of my eye sight. He said there is no treatment for the condition that he was aware of. This book offers a natural alternative to losing vision. The book is based on fairly substantial research. The book gives you a detailed program of proper food and nutritional supplements that have been successful in halting the progression of this problem and even reversing its degenerative eye-sight robbing effects. I've started the program. While it's too early to report improvement at least I now have hope of improving my condition. The book is written for the lay person and is very easy to read yet packed with information.

This is a good book if you are in to natural heaing. I was actually doing research on Macular Degeneration for my Dad and picked this one up. To be honest though, had I been in a bookstore actually glancing through it, I probably would not have purchased it. Nothing bad about it, but just not worth the money.

Buy it! My Mother suffers from Macular Degeneration and I have been to several Doctor's with her. Vitamins and circulation are the keys to preventing build up in the retina. I think the book is easy to read and very has helpful information on the drugs that cause eye damage. I am buying it for my siblings for Christmas. Nothing is more precious than your eyesite. We need to research every avenue to prevent this horrible condition.
