Review

Readers' Favorite 5 Star Review:

The Magic Shop is adventurous, fast paced, and full of exciting and thrilling events. Justin Swapp made everything and everywhere interesting - the phoenix, the dragon, the magic, Nevada, and even the hospital was fascinating. The characters were full of secrets which made getting to know them delightful. Marcus was playful and always gets in trouble and Ellie may seem to be always stuck in a book but when needed, both of them dominated. The ending was kind of a cliffhanger so I am totally looking forward to the next book.

This story was an amazing journey! I literally read into the wee hours of the night, waiting with baited breath, to see where the adventure would take me! This isn't just a great adventure though, Swapp has the ability to make you literally feel the depth of emotion that the characters are experiencing. I feel as if I am friends with the characters that have come alive on the pages of The Magic Shop. I can't wait to see where Marcus and Ellie's journey will lead them in the next book!
You will NOT be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Magic Shop April 13, 2014

I had a lot of fun with this book. Twins (a boy and a girl) who live with their grandparents - and their grandparents own a magic shop. The story begins at the end of school, the last day before summer begins ... and when they had home that day, the adventure begins.

This is a great book to share with the middle school kids in your lives, especially if they like magic. I loved the characters, very real and interesting to get to know. The take on magic was interesting as well. And, of course, the little bit of mystery was great fun to figure out.

Note: I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting and Entertaining April 27, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
The Magic Shop is tale of secrets and magic mixed with plenty of action. I especially like the way Mr. Swapp shows main character Marcus maturing as he joins forces with his twin sister, Ellie, to deal with dragons, gnarliguts, and the keeper of the magical dead.

This is a fun story which will appeal to young readers as well as adults. Don't miss this exciting quest of two young people searching for answers about their past and their future!

5.0 out of 5 stars Creatively woven story you can't put down. April 29, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I've read many of the top popular young adult novels, and this one ranks right up there with the best! Follow Marcus and his sister as they find out their past and their future is not what they thought it was. Many strange and confusing events lead us to the end, and waiting impatiently for what must surely have a sequel!

Mr. Swapp has created a wonderful wizarding world, great characters, and villains you're not sure if are good or bad until the end. If you're a fan of Harry Potter, you will absolutely love this story!

5.0 out of 5 stars You won't be disappointed September 25, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Justin gets us to the action pretty quickly and I appreciate that. There is a back story but Justin weaves it throughout the story and we discover it at the same time Marcus does. I appreciate that. There were times that I was a bit frustrated because I didn't know the back story and so I was confused about what was going on, but so was Marcus so in that aspect Justin was a master at making me feel what the characters were feeling.
There were a couple things that I guessed, but this is a middle grade novel and I am a bit past middle grade. However there was one HUGE thing that I didn't guess and was as surprised as Marcus. And then the next thing surprised me even more and I was left hoping that that is a doorway to a next book because I really want there to be a next book. Is there a next book, Justin? Please say yes because I am waiting for it.
If you like Percy Jackson, Maze Runner, Fable Haven and the like, you will like The Magic Shop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Fantasy Series Begins! July 23, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This novel begins as typical kids are in conflict with their grandparents, who are raising them. The grandparents decide Marcus and his sister, Ellie, would benefit from helping in the store that is the family business, the Magic Shop.

Marcus hates magic, but his interest blossoms as he gradually learns that the family business is a front for something much more dangerous, and as his own magic develops.

This novel is full of wonderful characters as well as plot twists that keep you wondering exactly who the good guys really are. Marcus and Ellie had wonderful adventures in The Magic Shop, and I can hardly wait for the next book of their adventures. If you loved Harry Potter, Fablehaven, or Percy Jackson, you will enjoy this book.
