Wow, only one review?! Frontier Records needs to spend some money on advertising and get the word out on this album. I mean, this is about as perfect of a CD as you'll ever find. Ever so often, a band will put out a recording where everything just comes together, the songs, the production, and then that CD becomes the standard for which the fans hold the band to. Like: TNT's Tell No Tales, Dokken's Under Lock and Key, Dream Theater's Images and Words, Angra's Rebirth, or Harem Scarem's Mood Swings just to name a few. I know this CD is just a side project for these guys, but it's amazing none the less, and definitely sets a standard. For starters, you have Micheal Eriksen, who is easily one of the best metal singers currently in the biz, belting out the vocals on this CD. He's just one of those singers like Tony Harnell, Ray Alder, Sabastion Bach, Brad Delp or Steve Perry who just slay everything they sing. A real singer's singer if you will. Like I mentioned, this is melodic metal at it's best. Every song on here is killer, each one could be a single. Although this isn't prog metal, I think Circus Maximus fans can still appreciate hearing Micheal Eriksen sing in a more melodic straight forward setting that this CD presents. Don't get me wrong, I'm a prog fan, I love Circus Maximus, but being a product of the 80's, it's nice to hear some really great metal without all the odd time signatures, and all the other things that trademark prog metal. The guitar solos on this CD really deliver as well. It's the perfect combination of melodic choruses and blazing guitar acrobatics. So whether you're into melodic rock like Journey or Foreigner; melodic metal like TNT, Harem Scarem, the Russell/Jorn projects; or prog metal like Dream Theater, Symphony X, Angra, or Circus Maximus (obvisouly), just give it a listen and see why it's properly named The Magnificent

Just let me say that The Magnificent is the saviour of Hard Rock. They have absolutely beautiful songs, with the vocalist of Circus Maximus singing like a god and the guitar playing is beyond awesome. Overall the quality of sound is pristine and will make you enjoy this album from start to finish. I have listened to it in my home stereo and in the car and let me tell you, this music feels good, positive, empowering and will definitely provide you with pleasurable time. There is no filler here, just killer.

The Magnificent is a great new melodic rock project from Frontiers Records featuring the brilliant talents of Leverage guitarist and songwriter Torsti Spoof combined with the amazing vocals of Circus Maximus singer Michael Eriksen. The style of music presented here is melodic hard rock focused on smooth vocal melodies with massive chorus hooks and highly technical guitar solos. The production is huge yet warm and the guitar solos are really well constructed. Production was handled by Torsti Spoof which is astounding as his talents seem to have no limits. I have been a massive fan of what these guys have done in their own bands and was very excited to hear what their combined forces would achieve and I must say the results are impressive. Highlights include the bombastic opener "Holding On To Your Love", the very memorable songwriting of "Cheated By Love", the awesome power ballad "Angel", the energetic performance of "Satin & Lace", the massive chorus and killer guitar solo of "Smoke & Fire", and the epic power ballad "If It Takes All Night". What The Magnificent lacks in originality it makes up for in perfect execution making this one of the essential albums to check out this year. It really is a pleasure listening to Michael Eriksen nail the vocal melodies on these intense songs. The Magnificent is definitely one of the strongest melodic rock albums of the year and is highly recommended to fans of Leverage, Brother Firetribe, and Whitesnake's classic 1987 album - 4.5 stars.

"The Magnificent" is the melodic hard rock project of guitarist Torsti Spoof ("Leverage") and singer Michael Eriksen ("Circus Maximus") and this self titled album is their debut issued by "Frontiers" records. Most would agree that "Leverage" released one of the greatest melodic albums of 2009 with "Circus Colossus" and seem to have gotten fans of the genre fired up for a follow up album. Though "The Magnificent" is not that, it is more than a reason for fans of the genre to be happy. Despite "The Magnificent" being promoted as `Modern AOR' it is in fact a melodic hard rock album, and a very infectious collection of songs at that. You get ever-present guitars delivering riffs, melodies and solos, intense rhythm section (with occasional double bass drumming) plus outstanding vocal melodies by Eriksen who shines throughout "The Magnificent" debut.

Having played the album a good number of times, I am still surprised by the quality of the compositions as every riff, every melody and every chorus counts, amounting to a memorable album baring a musical identity of its own. For that matter, a great deal of effort has been put in the songwriting with Torsti being the core songwriter, occaisonally aided by "Leverage" members Pekka Heino and Tuomas Heikkinen.

It is hard to pick favorites out of the "Magnificent" yet "Cheated by Love", "Bullets", "Holding on to your Love" and the unforgettable "Satin & Lace" are best examples of the quality of this great album. "The Magnificent" is indeed a band/project that totally deserves and does justice to its name. If you are a fan of "Leverage" or the melodic genres in general, you have got to get this!
