I recently interviewed Samantha Brett, co-author of The Man Whisperer: A Gentle, Results-Oriented Approach to Communication on my talk radio podcast program "Upfront & Straightforward with Alan Roger Currie." I purchased this book to prepare for my interview with Ms. Brett. Samantha and I had a great discussion about the contents and advice offered in her and Donna Sozio's book designed to help women improve their dating relationships with men. After reading the book though, I was frank with Samantha: Much of the advice given to women in "The Man Whisperer" really comes down to a pleasant, subtle, easily acceptable form of manipulation.

I love the fact that Donna and Samantha are letting women know that they don't have to bitch at men, whine constantly, nag men, and/or act like a spoiled brat to get much of what they want out of a man. The goals and objectives that the book spells out for women are solid.

The problem is that most of the advice seems to center on "changing" a man, and motivating him to 'modify' various aspects of his behavior that the average female companion finds irritating or intolerable. My question is, why not just find a GREAT GUY with all of the attributes that you want in a male companion from the get-go? This book should really be renamed, "The Man Whisperer: How to Get a Stubborn Alpha Male to become an Acquiescent Beta Male by using Sex and other Socially Acceptable forms of Manipulation" (Okay, okay ... no publisher would ever go for a sub-title that damn long, but you get my point)

The book is not a 'bad' book at all.

As someone who used to feel like my needs were less important than pleasing my man - and stewing about it until I exploded like a volcano - this book offers a safe and sane way to make sure my man and I both get our needs met.

Donna and Sam make it easy to let go of nagging... to let go of my abject people-pleasing ways ... and give simple steps that are easy to act upon and create great results.

I love how respectful of men this book is - no male-bashing here - just a recognition that men and women are different, and how to navigate and appreciate those differences with ease and grace.

Brava, Donna and Sam!

What I love it that this book inspires us to work with men's nature - not deny it or suffer our way against it.

This advice takes me to a simple and elegant time when manners and courtesy superceeded exessive over-sharing and inspires me to be more thoughtful and considered in my communication in general.

I am OK with the fact that we need to speak differently to men - just as we expect them to speak to us in certain, more empathetic terms - and the positive results and harmony this advice warrants is well worth the pause of mind!

I am an avid reader of relationship books, emotional development and psychology books. I go through books like water, and I can definitely say without hesitation that this book should be every girls bible! I thought I KNEW IT ALL! Until reading this book...from a GEN Y perspective where girls are meant to be "equals"to men...I think this book really makes your man feel special, like he is in control...being recently engaged it is really working wonders in my relationship. I am a very strong woman that will normally fight back and not take any sh@#. However, with that comes stress- this book has taught me how to RELAX, CHILL OUT and let your man "FIX IT". It has also taught me to ZIP IT! because not zipping it leads to unnecessary problems. This is a fantastic book, and has taught me that I need to stop acting like the tough "guy" in the relationship! A MUST HAVE FOR ANY GIRL!!!!!!! This will definitely be a number #1 seller! :)
