The Man in the Cage is one of Jack Vance's non sf works. It's a murder mystery/thriller set in North Africa, and it's strength comes from strong main character, witty observations of an expat US community, and Vance's usual brilliance at visual desciption. The murder and its solution is superbly plotted.
