Great Read!, May 20, 2011
This review is from: The Many (Kindle Edition)
David Silva's THE MANY is a brilliant coming-of-age novel, comparable to Stephen King's novella THE BODY (STAND BY ME if you're more familiar with the Rob Reiner film version) and Robert McCammon's BOY'S LIFE. Originally published as CHILD OF DARKNESS, Silva has re-released this novel as an ebook, and I, for one, am glad he did.
Without getting into the specifics--I believe this story reads better the less you know about it--the story revolves around two young brothers, Kiel and Justin Reed, who are sent to live with their aunt after their parents die in a barn fire.
If I had to generalize, I'd say this is a horror novel, but it's more than that. It's a story about the love between two brothers, and it's a story about the darkness that crowds the heart. The novel's strengths lie in Silva's commanding narrative and his ability to force the question: what is going on here? Because there are many twists and turns, and let me tell you, THE MANY is a wild ride that will keep you reading well into the night.
