Book Description

Two wrongs don’t make a right, but they just might make a perfect match…

Nick Garret is flypaper for females, and he likes it that way. Women stick for a while, and when it’s over they fly away. So does he. Then one rain-slick night a young woman steps in front of his pickup truck, and his jaded, cynical life takes a sharp swerve toward trouble.

Calliope did the only thing she could think to get Nick to steer his truck—and his life—in a new direction. Banished from the Fae realm for granting a wish gone bad, her punishment is an impossible task; redeem the unredeemable Nick Garret. If she fails to help him pair three couples in everlasting bliss, he’s doomed to never experience real love. And she will share his fate—as a mortal.

Nick can’t decide if this charming, exasperating woman is a dream come true, or a saucy, sexy nightmare sent to drive him insane. Yet something about her makes him want to rise to her challenge. He’ll do anything to make her stick around a while.

Besides, how much trouble can one half-naked, seemingly wingless faerie be?

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful August 11, 2009
Format:Kindle Edition
Well, let me take a moment to wipe the tears from my eyes before I get started. This simple tale was so powerful it left me sighing.

Nick Garret is a rolling stone. He loves the ladies (for a little while) and then leaves them, or they leave him. No broken hearts, no recriminations, just another episode of sex in a life that is going nowhere. Gee, I think I recognize this guy.

And then there's Calliope, a fairy, or as she prefers--fae--who just wants to maintain the status quo in fairyland, keep her wings, and always be allowed to assist in lovers finding true love.

Thank heaven neither of the main characters have a clue about what's best for them. Calliope is assigned the arduous task of helping three mortal couples find each other. Nick of course is the human chosen to assist her in divine matchmaking.

If they fail--neither will ever experience love again, for anything or anyone. Nick really doesn't see the big deal. He's not that impressed with the emotion and has found that it fades fast. The way he sees it, he doesn't have much to lose.

Calliope, on the other hand, has a career in aiding lovers in their lonely quests. She'll not only lose her job, but also her wings, her fairy power, and most of all her immortality. She'll be...human.

I loved Nick and Callie, grieved at their loss, and rejoiced at their reuniting. By the third page, the enchantment of the story enveloped me. Kudos, to author Jennifer Colgan; I will definitely watch for more of this author's books, and suggest that my friends buy her too. The writing and editing were superb, delivering a story that made me remember why I love romance. Like I said, I don't cry easy, but this one made me wipe the mist from my glasses.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet on The Matchmakers November 3, 2010

I thought this book sounded like fun and I'm so glad I decided to get it. I loved this book! Nick and Callie are charged with the task of matching three true love couples. They start with focusing on the job but quickly realize there is more than just business feeling for each other. It is a warm and loving tale that I thoroghly enjoyed and if you're a sucker for romance like me, then you'll enjoy this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Endearing and Cute November 4, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
How, exactly, does a banished Fae get self-confessed and rootless commitment-phobe Nick Garret to realize that time is quickly running out on his ability to love when he's so dead set against the emotion to begin with? Sure, he's never met a woman he didn't lust, but he lives life just a packed duffel bag away from footloose and fancy free. His views on women are stereotypical and grim enough to make a faerie curse, and while he does have some scruples, he tends not to examine a woman's words too closely out of fear of brushing against them before he can have her.

Convincing Nick that he's got until the night of the Oak Moon to work with her in joining three couples in true love or the Fae Goddess Freya will strip both of them of their ability to love isn't Calliope's only burden, either. She's got to convince him she's not human, that Fae exist, and he's not losing his mind. Oh, and there's that pesky issue about his absolute disbelief in the concept of love, let alone his willingness to help six people find it. For a Fae of the caste that governs the fulfillment of destiny with a specialty in love, there's really only one way to start...

Step in front of his truck as he exists the freeway on a stormy night and force his truck into a ditch. Yeah. That'll do it.

It's going to be a long two months for both of them.

This is my first read of a Jennifer Colgan book and once again I'm left feeling grateful for my Kindle, as Amazon is offering this as a free download at the moment. Don't let the premise of the book fool you into thinking it's a ridiculous effort, because Colgan definitely shows off her writing chops despite the fanciful and slightly silly premise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly funny and sweet November 9, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I downloaded this book since it was free, but from the description, I wasn't really sure what to expect - I'm not a huge fan of high fantasy kinds of novels, even if they are romance.

However, I was very pleasantly surprised by The Matchmakers. It was funny and well-written with likable characters and enough romantic tension between main characters to keep it interesting. I especially like the development of Nick, the tough commitment-phobe. I even teared up a little near the end, but I won't give away any spoilers.

Do yourself a favor and download this book - free or not, it's a great read that will be worth your time. I can't wait to get a hold of the author's other novels!

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't Put It Down November 12, 2010
By mcd
Format:Kindle Edition
I absolutely loved this novel. It was intense, funny, heartwarming, tear-jerking, romantic, and entertaining. My only criticism was that it was slightly easy to predict, but that definitely did not take away from its many other qualities. Currently its free, but it is still way worth the marketed price. It is also heated without being overly dirty in the material. Unlike other romance novels, it only has one "scandalous" scene in the whole novel but has that same intensity throughout its pages.
