Editorial Reviews

Five friends break into a corn maze in the middle of the night and decide to play a harmless game of tag. Little do they know that a psychopathic killer has decided to play along. As they wander aimlessly through the maze, the murderer follows closely behind-taunting them and watching every move. The game turns deadly when the kids decide to separate and weaken their chances of survival. When the mutilated body of the owner is found, they realize that something is terribly wrong. As they race to the entrance of the maze, the psycho cleverly forces them to follow the path that he wants. Manipulating everyone to his vicious will, the slasher taunts his victims and leads them further into the depths of the maze. After enduring hours of torture, will anyone make it out of the maze...alive?

4.0 out of 5 stars The Killer in the Corn August 8, 2014
In THE MAZE a group of close friends travel all day to reach what they have heard is supposed to be one of the largest and best corn mazes around. Unbeknownst to them, a killer has already entered the maze and has gotten revenge, for a perceived slight, through murder. When the group of friends arrives, the maze is closed for the night, but after their long journey the group decides to make the best of it and play a game of tag in the corn maze. When the murderer realizes what is going on, he decides to play along and increase his body count. The game of tag becomes deadly and soon the remaining friends are racing to find each other and escape from the maze with their lives.

Before watching THE MAZE, there are a couple things watchers should keep in mind. The first is that the movie is a very low budget picture. It’s obvious that the filmmakers couldn’t afford some of the effects that horror films with a larger budget can. With that said, the filmmakers really used their resources to the best of their ability to make the best movie possible. Also, in reading other reviews and comments about THE MAZE, there are some who find the idea of a murderer killing people in a corn maze to be completely unrealistic. Those people apparently have never been to a large corn maze. I have been to corn mazes that go on for miles and, without outside assistance, it can be quite easy to get lost (of course, a person could just run through the corn rows, but corn leaves cut and can cut quite deeply; I know from the summers I detasseled corn). Personally, I think the idea of a corn maze killer to be an interesting idea.

In general, the first two acts of THE MAZE move at a slow and hesitant pace.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good movie. September 1, 2011
By Kaelan
for the first 45 minutes, a i was like..Uhh..Weve done seen the same thing a million times before, but then it shifted, into, like a thriller type movie. It is not Very Gory, or bloody at all. But still, a Horror Movie. Im sure you caould easily find this movie on Syfy.

Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
The maze is a killer horror movie with twists galore you will never see who the true killer is till the end of the movie and the only thrill about this is that the killers caught rather killed I bout this movie because i recently saw on the chiller channel on digital cable along other movie s i juist vbought like smile which perfect for me even though SMILE was cheesy it was good enough for me to keep The Maze however was greatly made and cast was brilliant along the personalities of the several victims and characters that were killed off its a heartpounding thriller abbout 5 friends in a corn maze.

3.0 out of 5 stars Missed Opportunity... July 13, 2013
As I watched the first hour of THE MAZE, I grew increasingly frustrated by the idiotic characters doing idiotic things. I, like others, wondered why they didn't simply leave the maze, or cry out, or take some logical steps toward their own survival. I waited, and thought about turning it off. Then, an astonishing thing happened. I watched as THE MAZE transformed from a mediocre-at-best slasher film (the first, tedious hour) into a tense, interesting thriller (the final 30 minutes). This almost makes up for the first two thirds of the movie. Almost. Perhaps, if it had been split evenly in half, w/ the morons running aimlessly to their deaths lasting only 45 minutes, then maybe it would have made the payoff more effective. As it is, THE MAZE only makes me groan, wishing the entire movie could have been as well-done as the final third...

5.0 out of 5 stars good, clean fun November 17, 2010
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Old school suspense minus the overindulgence in gore we've seen since the 70s. Believable supporting cast and creepy yet human antagonist. Campy, scary and fun.
